On this tour, you will see original objects created by people before the Spanish Conquest of this territory in 1521. All of them were either found by archaeologists in several explorations in Mexico, or recovered after being confiscated by looters. We will visit the museum which houses the biggest archaeological collection in the country, distributed in different halls inside a modern building, which is one of the most beautiful in Mexico. We will cover many aspects of Mesoamerican cultures such as where they lived, what they ate, how they looked like and the different clothes they wore. We will also discuss the different tools they designed, such as the creation of a written and numerical system, and the techniques they used to build their homes. As an archaeologist, I’m going to explain the most relevant cultural aspects of these societies, for example their different religions. In a short span of 3 hours, I will help you learn about the cultures that Mexicans inherited from the past.
Once in the museum, we will visit four halls, with chronological orientation, in order to understand the different processes and changes reached by each society, from sedentary to monumental cities: -We'll start in the Preclassic Hall where we'll see how people began a sedentary lifestyle 2500 years before this era, thanks to agriculture. -Then we’ll visit Teotihuacan Hall where we'll dive into a cosmopolitan city with monumental pyramids, whose residents economically influenced many cultures in the first millennial of this era. -Next, we'll visit the Mayan Hall, with one of the most interesting and important cultures in Mexico, which had cities built in the jungle, and citizens who created a hieroglyphic writing system & a vigesimal numerical system. -Finally, we'll enter Mexica Hall, which showcases the society conquered by the Spanish army in 1521. Here, we'll see how this became the strongest society just 200 years before the European invasion; and was then destroyed by Hernan Cortes.
