Hi! I’m Juan, a certified tour guide with Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism and a graduate in English Teaching from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). I was born and raised in Mexico City, and I’ve spent my whole life in this lively, fascinating place. After several years as an English teacher, I met a student who had been a tour guide for many years. He saw my passion for Mexican history and suggested I try guiding tours—and he was right! Not long after earning my certification, I realized that guiding had become my true calling. I love sharing Mexico through my eyes, helping visitors return home with unforgettable memories, and, of course, fantastic photos (I also enjoy photography and know the best spots for great shots!). My goal is for you to enjoy Mexico City safely, at your own pace, with a trip tailored to your interests. Feel free to reach out so we can customize your experience in CDMX whether before you arrive or even during your stay. I look forward to showing you the best of what this incredible city has to offer. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure! - Certified tour guide by the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico (SECTUR) - Degree in English Teaching from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) For groups of more than 4 people (or those who prefer extra comfort), I can arrange a spacious Toyota Sienna or similar vehicle with a professional driver, available for an additional fee.

Overview of your Mexico City tour

The south of Mexico City is full of surprises. If you have already visited the Historical Center, the South of Mexico City is waiting for you to see the beautiful and colorful houses that the Spanish conquistadors built after the Aztec Empire was defeated. Cortés chose to settle in the south of Tenochtitlan (Coyoacan's neighborhood today). You will walk on the same streets where the first Spanish in Mexico lived almost 500 years ago! Coyoacan is a bohemian neighborhood where the famous Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived. It is also known for its Franciscan ex-monastery, markets, handicrafts, coffee shops, and its delicious churros. The National University and Xochimilco are both World Heritage places that no one should miss. In Xochimilco, you'll leave the traffic behind on a colorful boat and see the chinampas (floating gardens) with flowers. San Angel is a fancy area where the wealthy built their vacation homes. It is a great place to get nice handicrafts and try amazing Mexican food!

Our party of four can’t say enough good things about our tour with Juan. His knowledge of ancient and recent history, culture, politics, food, and current events helped make his enthusiasm and love of Mexico City infectious. He has a great personality that makes spending the day with him a pleasure. He also was very accommodating to any requests we had to the itinerary.

This was our second tour with Juan, and he took great care of our family during our tour. We learned so much more about what we were seeing throughout Xochimilco, Coyoacan, San Angel, and more. We could not have visited these areas and taken in so much without his expert guidance. He knew exactly where to take us, from the main spots, to a delicious lunch and churros, and added a personal touch everywhere we went. When protests and construction made traffic nearly impossible to navigate back to our hotel, Juan found a great solution and stayed positive through a challenging situation. Don't miss the chance to tour with Juan!

This was an outstanding tour from beginning to end - with too many interesting highlights to list. There were four of us in our party, and we all connected with Juan immediately. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about Mexico’s history, but never in a dry or lecture-y way. It was more like great stories and conversations than a formal tour. We learned a lot about both Mexicos past and the present day culture, politics, etc... and it was great the way he connected it all. We invited Juan to join us for lunch and he offered us several options from upscale to more "authentic" restaurants - which we chose and were glad we did. We covered a lot of ground in 6–7 hours, but it never felt rushed - it was more like spending the day with an interesting friend who happens to know everything about the area. Even the drive time was enjoyable; Juan's a great conversationalist - and his vehicle was spotless and very comfortable (and stocked with plenty of water). If you want to explore beyond Mexico City and still get back with plenty of time to enjoy the rest of your afternoon, this tour is an excellent choice. Highly recommended.

Wonderful private tour for two, well thought out and arranged, personalized to add stops for some murals we were interested in. Highly recommend this tour and Juan as a guide.

Perfect tour. Juan knows A LOT about Mexico City and the culture. He was on time. Nice drive and great chats. He took us to different places and we did the boat ride in Xochimilco, Coyoacan and San Angel. The tour took more time b/c of traffic but he did not mind. Thank you very much Juan!

Juan Silva is one of the best tour guides that I have ever booked. So knowledgeable, but not in a stuffy way. He is very flexible. And plans out the day with amazing precision. Calculating when to leave and even where to park in order to maximize comfort and enjoyment. He is kind, smart, relaxed, funny. He also made a point of telling me things to not miss. And this tour covered four of his MUST DOs: XOCHIMILOCO….VILLA COYOACAN…..EL PASTOR…..CHURROS.  All epic! I would recommend Juan Silva, this particular tour and Tours By Locals to EVERY traveler visiting this gorgeous city.

Your Mexico City tour itinerary

• Hotel pick up • One hour ride on a boat in Xochimilco (floating gardens in the south of the city and World Heritage site) • UNAM murals (World Heritage site thanks to its architecture and fantastic murals) Coyoacan walking tour (This neighborhood is one of the oldest in Mexico City. The Spanish conquistadors settled there after the Aztecs were defeated). • Lunch break (I will suggest some places depending on your interests but you can't miss the famous churros rellenos here!) • San Angel neighborhood walking tour (The wealthy society of the 18 and 19 century built their vacation homes here. It became a fancy a colonial place where many years later artists like Diego Rivera and Frida Khalo lived) • Hotel drop off
