The history of Venice begins when people from the mainland came to the marshy islands for refuge. According to tradition, the citizens of Venice originated from nearby cities like Aquileia, who were fleeing successive waves of Germanic and Hun invasions. Over the next few centuries, these people slowly transformed the islands into what they are today. Because of their defensive position, the Venetians were basically able to maintain their independence from the invading barbarians, and thus essentially remain Roman. I loved since I was a child the venetian history. I read books and was always proud of what was done for the amazing Serenissima republic.
This was amazing. We were lucky to have found the perfect tour to start our time in Venice. A terrific overview of the city, with plenty of knowledge on just about anything you could want to know. We felt enriched with history, oriented in terms fo the city setup, and empowered to prioritize what to do for the next few days in this town with so much. With true locals (let alone true native locals!) hard to find, Ermanno is a gem. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Ermanno was a very engaging guide with a great sense of humor. He is a very proud Venetian and can tell you many stories about what it was like growing up in that wonderful city. On our latest trip we had several guides and Ermanno made, by far, the most effort to engage with our teens. The tour length is just right as it gets you oriented to the city and the different areas (and much of the history) so you can further discover on your own.

Maria Formosa and S. Giovanni e Paolo square to Marco Polo house and Rialto Bridge. -Reach the Rialto market with fish and fruits and vegetables get inside the real Venice.
