As someone who moved to Genoa from the USA in the 80s, it was quite a bit of a culture shock! It took me a while to get into the "Italian" style of schooling, "not" staying in line, an obsession with 3 course meals and very specific fashion trends! It wasn't hard to fall in love with Genoa, a city that has evolved and changed a lot since then. My name is Marina and I’m Italian even though I wasn’t born here and moved around quite a bit in my younger years! After attending High School in Genoa, I returned when I was 28 and decided to set up camp in the historical center of this lovely city I now call home. I’ve worked as a translator and intrepreter my whole lfe, with a few stints of teaching and a passion for mindfulness. I am now also a fully licensed Italian Tour Leader and I’ve found I thoroughly enjoy sharing all that I love about Genoa and its people (as well as its flaws!). If you’re looking for an insider’s view on the city, local perspectives, and insights on lifestyle differences that Americans usually find amusing or admirable, then join me! Choose one of my tours of Genoa or the Riviera or allow me to craft one just for you, according to your interests and desires.

Do you want to really get a feeling of what Genoa and its inhabitants are like? Join me as I take you through the unique and still very authentic old town, where we will see the good, the gritty and the gorgeous from the unique perspective of someone who lives and breathes it daily. Drive through the posh neighborhoods, visit a beautiful fisherman's village right in the city, and get a bird's eye view of it all from a beautiful panoramic spot. As someone who believes that food is very much a part of the cultural experience, I will of course show you my favorite spots for focaccia, pesto, fried anchovies, gelato and more!
- We begin in Genoa's old town, a true open-air museum. I'll help you navigate the maze-like "caruggi", past the Cathedral, main squares, red light district, and the Porto Antico (Old Port) area – stopping for focaccia, cappuccino, lunch and maybe a little shopping at my favorite local spots. - Take a historic public elevator to the posh neighborhood of Castelletto to enjoy an amazing bird's eye view of the entire city east to west. - By taxi, we’ll head to a delightful fishing village, within the city – a little hidden gem that feels like a mini Cinque Terre. From there we can take a secret shortcut to nearby Vernazzola, another picturesque seaside neighborhood. - On the way back we’ll cruise along the city's seaside promenade with its beautiful villas (and maybe have one more gelato!) before your chosen drop off point. This tour can be tailored to best meet your needs and desires.
