As someone who moved to Genoa from the USA in the 80s, it was quite a bit of a culture shock! It took me a while to get into the "Italian" style of schooling, "not" staying in line, an obsession with 3 course meals and very specific fashion trends! It wasn't hard to fall in love with Genoa, a city that has evolved and changed a lot since then. My name is Marina and I’m Italian even though I wasn’t born here and moved around quite a bit in my younger years! After attending High School in Genoa, I returned when I was 28 and decided to set up camp in the historical center of this lovely city I now call home. I’ve worked as a translator and intrepreter my whole lfe, with a few stints of teaching and a passion for mindfulness. I am now also a fully licensed Italian Tour Leader and I’ve found I thoroughly enjoy sharing all that I love about Genoa and its people (as well as its flaws!). If you’re looking for an insider’s view on the city, local perspectives, and insights on lifestyle differences that Americans usually find amusing or admirable, then join me! Choose one of my tours of Genoa or the Riviera or allow me to craft one just for you, according to your interests and desires.

Welcome to the historical heart of the city—one of the largest and most authentic in all of Italy, where real locals (like me!) still live, laugh, and hang their laundry from the balconies. It's a wonderful maze of narrow "vicoli" that twist and turn, where getting lost is almost guaranteed—and missing the magic is far too easy on your own. But don’t worry—I would love to walk with you through the smaller alleys you might not dare to explore alone, inviting you to look where you might not (often up) showing tucked-away treasures, charming corners, and true slices of local life. I'll share what it's really like to live here, my funny stories and favorites when it comes to focaccia, pesto, gelato, shopping and more!
- Starting from the city's main square with it's wonderful fountain, I will lead you through the maze-like "caruggi" (small pedestrian alleys) that even Google maps still can't navigate! - We will walk by the Cathedral, a beautiful secret garden, shops that look like museums, my favorite churches and the very majestic Palazzi of Genoa's old aristocratic families - We will take a stroll through the Old Port area and ride the most famous public elevator to reach an amazing panoramic terrace for a bird's eye view of the entire city, east to west! - I will recommend super food stops and shops along the way! This tour can be personalized according to your interests (antiques, design, vintage clothing, food, jewellery and more ... just ask!)
