I’m Sayuri, a proud Soteropolitana—born and raised in Salvador, Bahia—and a Brazilian Black Asian (Blasian) tour guide. I absolutely love my hometown, and I love sharing it with travelers through experiences that go beyond the usual tourist attractions. As a licensed national and South American tour guide, I create experiences throughout Salvador and Bahia, including destinations such as Cachoeira (Reconcavo Baiano - birthplace of Samba de Roda), Morro de São Paulo, Boipeba, Praia do Forte (Turtle Sanctuary - TAMAR) and more. Salvador is often called “Black Rome” because of the strength and richness of its African heritage. In my tours, I love exploring this history and culture through music, food, literature, religion, neighborhoods, architecture and—most importantly—the people who make Salvador what it is. I also believe that traveling should benefit the local community. Whenever possible, my tours support small local businesses and independent producers, while still including the iconic places you came all the way to Bahia to see. 🌎 Virtual tours from Brazil In 2020, virtual tourism opened a whole new world for me. I discovered that it was possible to share Salvador with people anywhere in the world—even when they couldn't travel here themselves. Welcome to Bahia!! This is the most important and must do tour in Salvador: walking tour in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and you will visit with a local afro-brazilian tour guide. This is my favorite part of the city and the walking tours (in-person or virtual). We will walk in the upper city and if you want we can also visit the lower city Mercado Modelo area (option) The streets that inspired Jorge Amado to write "Dona Flor and her 2 husbands" and were also used by many artists in their videoclip - the most famous one was Michael Jackson in 1996 - "They Don't Care About US" Salvador was the first capital of Brazil (1549 - 1763) and walk in the colonial wall city is a charming view of Bahia. Also this area is the location of museums, schools of music/dance, cultural centers, and some top restaurants!
My family and I truly enjoyed touring with Sayuri. She was warm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the local community. Although there was much more we would have loved to see, our limited time didn’t allow it all. We would absolutely book with her again on our next visit to Salvador.

Sayuri has great knowledge of the city, past and present, and was really interesting. Very good English. Nicely customized our 2 days with her to fit our needs. Friendly and social, other guides and neighbors constantly coming up to greet her, although she can sometimes be set in her ways.
We will explore the whole area of UPPER city from Largo do Pelourinho until Elevador Lacerda: cultural centers, museums, hand made crafts of local artists, etc. If you book the tour around 2:30-3:00PM, we can plan to see the sunset by the end of the tour. A tradicional itinerary in the Old Town: Meeting at Terreiro de Jesus - WAlking towards Elevador Lacerda - Largo Peloruinho, Praca da Se and best view of the Bay of All Saints (I usually give an option to visit the Lower City - Mercado Modelo) Walk in the main streets with calm and time to explore small local shops and local flavours (drink Cravinho is a MUST in Pelourinho) You will have enouth time to enjoy town and we will visti the Igreja de Sao Francisco (Gold Church - tickets included) (*) If Sao Francisco Church is not open we will visit Cathedral or N. S. Rosario Pretos Church. I suggest to finish the tour in one of my favorite local restaurants. (*this tour DOES NOT APPLY FOR CARNIVAL SEASON - CHECK CARNIVAL TOUR OPTIONS)
