Itacaré, Brazil presents itself as a curious mix of reggae beats and ocean whispers, a place that seems to invite you to slow down and just be. It’s not just another coastal town with pretty views—it’s where the essence of Bahian culture seems to seep into your very being. A local guide here doesn’t just show you around; they provide a lens to view a world that’s as rich in cultural tapestry as its landscapes. Picture yourself meandering through streets painted with the hues of daily life, not just seeing the art but feeling its vibrancy. A food and wine tour here isn't about the food alone, it's about connecting with flavours that tell a story, where a dish like moqueca isn’t just eaten, it’s experienced. When you wander through cacao plantations or bypass the crowded artisanal markets with your guide leading the way, each encounter is layered with depth. In Itacaré, sunsets aren't just endings—they're preludes to whatever story tomorrow might bring, with your guide as the storyteller. Explore Itacare your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Itacare tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Itacare for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Head into Serra do Conduru State Park to listen for capuchin monkeys, point out bromeliads, and watch toucans glide over the canopy. In nesting season, time an evening walk at Itacarezinho to look for sea-turtle tracks, or paddle a canoe through the Rio de Contas mangroves to spot herons and kingfishers.

Layover tours: On a short layover from Ilhéus airport, a guide can meet you at arrivals, drive the BA-001 to the Tijuipe waterfall for a swim, pause at the Itacarezinho lookout for a fresh coconut, and return you to the terminal with time to spare. With just a few hours in town, do a quick loop tour: Rua Pedro Longo for an acarajé snack, Ponta do Xaréu viewpoint, and a rinse-off swim at Praia da Concha before drop-off.

Hiking tours: Choose the classic Four Beaches trail linking Engenhoca, Havaizinho, Camboinha, and Itacarezinho on forest paths with cliff-top views, and stop for fresh fruit at a beach shack. For something wilder, hike to Prainha from Ribeira or take the Jeribucaçu trail with a tidal river crossing your guide will time around low tide.

The central area is walkable, but many trailheads and far beaches need a ride, and public transport is limited to local vans. You can book tours with private transportation or a chauffeured transfer from Ilhéus; your local guide will plan timing around traffic and tides.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Itacare inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Itacare

From Itacaré, you can reach beaches, waterfalls, and small towns on relaxed day trips, and build tours around surf, jungle walks, or food.

- Península de Maraú: snorkel the Taipu de Fora tide pools at low tide, visit Barra Grande’s sandy streets, and roll along coastal tracks, and your guide can plan around tides and road conditions so you spend time in the water, not in traffic.

- Serra Grande and Tijuipe Waterfall: stop at the cliffside lookout, walk long quiet sands, then swim under Tijuipe’s falls, with simple beachside meals that suit a laid-back nature day; your tour can put more time on trails or on the beach.

- Ilhéus: explore the historic centre and cathedral, trace cocoa stories linked to Jorge Amado, and sample chocolate at a working farm, a good mix for fans of culture, photography, and food.

- Taboquinhas and the Rio de Contas: combine a village visit with rafting on clear river rapids, add short forest walks, and taste local cacao, ideal for a more active day without long drives.

- Prainha and Jeribucaçu Trails: hike through Atlantic Forest to palm-lined coves with soft sand and steady surf, cool off in river mouths, and time sunset on a nearby lookout for a simple finish.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Itacare most travellers miss.
