Overview of your Salvador tour:

If you come to Bahia you must go to visit Rio Vermelho, Salvador's most bohemian neighborhood, where the traditional Festa de Iemanjá takes place every year and where the Bahian writer Jorge Amado lived. As a big fan of the candomblé I always attend this ritual and get my blessing for the whole year. Since we are talking about Iemanjá, the "Queen of the Sea", we cannot fail to visit her house and learn about the offerings, which so well reflect Bahia's religious syncretism. To dive deeper into the essence of the african influence we will visit a local market with its vibrant colors and intense smells, try some cachaça and talk with the locals. Here we will have the chance to see everything that we need for a candomblé ritual. As a foodie I always like to taste some local "tiragostos" (appetizers), and there is no better place than a community. Don't worry that I will order for you and you will love it. We will finish our experience visiting in the Museum of Modern Art right by the side of Gamboa Community.

Your Salvador tour itinerary

We can adjust any part of the itinerary according to your needs: 1- I will pick you up at the hotel or any place of your convenience. 2- We will drive to Rio Vermelho neighborhood where we will see the fisherman and visit the Iemanja Chapel, right next to a Catholic Church. 3- From here, we will drive to a local market (Ceasinha or São Joaquim, upon availability), where we will learn about local fruits and vegetables, visit some shops of candomble (Afro-Baian religion) and local handicrafts. Good chance to try the famous cachaça mixed with herbs that you will only find here. It's a wonderful experience and I enjoy this markets very much. 4- Drive to Gamboa community to enjoy a baian lunch and a special view of the Bay. 5- From here we will walk to the Museum of Modern Art, where they have different expositions everytime. During Mondays the Museum is closed so we wil visit Barra neighborhood instead.
