I’m Sayuri, a proud Soteropolitana—born and raised in Salvador, Bahia—and a Brazilian Black Asian (Blasian) tour guide. I absolutely love my hometown, and I love sharing it with travelers through experiences that go beyond the usual tourist attractions. As a licensed national and South American tour guide, I create experiences throughout Salvador and Bahia, including destinations such as Cachoeira (Reconcavo Baiano - birthplace of Samba de Roda), Morro de São Paulo, Boipeba, Praia do Forte (Turtle Sanctuary - TAMAR) and more. Salvador is often called “Black Rome” because of the strength and richness of its African heritage. In my tours, I love exploring this history and culture through music, food, literature, religion, neighborhoods, architecture and—most importantly—the people who make Salvador what it is. I also believe that traveling should benefit the local community. Whenever possible, my tours support small local businesses and independent producers, while still including the iconic places you came all the way to Bahia to see. 🌎 Virtual tours from Brazil In 2020, virtual tourism opened a whole new world for me. I discovered that it was possible to share Salvador with people anywhere in the world—even when they couldn't travel here themselves. How about speding one day outside Salvador? We suggest a day in the Northern Beaches of Bahia. With a private tour we can adjust the tour to your needs and avoid crowded beaches and enjoy more local life. My suggestion is to visit Praia do Forte and usually we do a stop before arriving in Praia do Forte for a nice swim in the ocean (Itassimirim or Guarajuba) Bring sunblock, hat and lots of energy to enjoy our day. Even in the winter it is possible to book this tour - winter temperature in Bahia is around 20C (or 70F), although it can be a bit wet with raining season. Please ask about opening hours or Projeto Tamar and Castelo Garcia D'Avila before booking. Usually in the Summer (Jan/Feb/July) opens every day but on the low season closes on Mondays/Tuesdays.
Sayuri really knows the area and is very happy to share her knowledge and enthusiasm. We only had a short cruise stay in Salvador & Sayuri made sure it was safe, comfortable, informative and fun. Sayuri was the perfect guide on this tour. This was the best day of my life as I was able to live my dream: see the just born turtles take to the see and start their lives on the ocean. The settings was perfect: at sunset at Project Tamar, then a rainbow appear. Sayuri was very caring and listened to my needs: since I had had no time to eat lunch: she stopped on the way for me to eat and she drove while I was catching up with jet lag. She also shared her best shops in Praia do Forte. Thank you Sayuri!

Sayuri's recommendation to start our Salvador visit with a day out of the city turned out to be perfect. We took in the spectacular views from Rio Vermelho to Itapuã, stopped at Casa Yemanja (which we'd have never found on our own, delighting the mermaid obsessed members of our group) and Vinícius de Moraes Square on our way to Praia do Forte. White turtles, baby turtles and a manta ray petting zoo at Projecto Tamar were followed by lots of great fried snacks and beers on the beach. Plus swimming!
The itinerary can be adapted to traveller's interests, we can customize experience. (* check open hours of Tamar, usually opens at 11am) Early Morning leave hotel (we suggest before 8am) 1. Visit a calm beach (I like Itassimirim or Guarajuba, but we can also visit other beaches) - I suggest to stay at least 1 hour here - to relax and enjoy the ocean in Bahia. We usually stop in a beach with options for drinks and snacks. 2. Praia do Forte - we will visit Projeto Tamar (tickets included for up 3 pax)- the most important sea turtle project in Brazil and enjoy the natural swimming pools (we will check the ocean hight tide and low tide). You can rent snorkels or do a "buggy" ride. 3. Lunch in a local restaurant or some of the top options in Praia do Forte 4. I suggest to leave Praia do Forte at around 3 or 4pm For the ones that do not like the "beach" vibest so moch we can add the option to visit Castelo Garcia D' Avilla (extra cost)
