Praia do Forte is located on the Costa dos Coqueiros, 80 km north from Salvador (50 mi). It was founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese nobleman Garcia D'Ávila. There, he built one of the oldest forts in Brazil, giving rise to this charming fishing village. The place is part of an environmentally protected area dedicated to the protection and conservation of its biodiversity and natural resources. It houses important scientific and educational attractions such as the Tamar project dedicated to protect sea turtles. The locals are envolve in this project and they also sell organic products from their own farms. We will have the chance to try seafood appetizers, different coconut candies and see handicrafts made by women's associations.
