Ilhabela private tours

Ilhabela, Brazil is one of those places where you're not quite sure what to make of it at first. You hear tales of this island where the rainforests practically spill onto the beaches, yet it seems too picture-perfect to be true. You might find yourself wondering if it's all just a clever marketing ploy until you actually set foot there. Having a local guide changes the narrative—it's not just about seeing the sights, it’s about feeling the island's pulse. Imagine sitting down for fresh seafood, the kind where you can almost hear the ocean in every bite, while a fisherman recounts tales of the sea, stories passed down like family...

Imagine sitting down for fresh seafood, the kind where you can almost hear the ocean in every bite, while a fisherman recounts tales of the sea, stories passed down like family heirlooms. Walking through the village of Vila, it’s like history colliding with the present, colonial structures standing amidst a tapestry of modern life. And then there are those waterfalls, not the kind you find in a guidebook, but the ones your guide takes pride in showing you—hidden gems that only a local could reveal. In Ilhabela, the waves don’t just greet you, they beckon you to delve deeper, to discover what lies beyond the obvious. Explore Ilhabela your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Ilhabela tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Ilhabela for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Walk shaded trails in Parque Estadual de Ilhabela to Cachoeira do Gato or Cachoeira do Veloso, spotting capuchin monkeys, coatis, and hummingbirds with your guide’s binoculars. Slip into the water at the Ilha das Cabras marine sanctuary for easy snorkelling among reef fish and, with luck, a sea turtle.

Boat tours: Cruise the São Sebastião Channel on a private speedboat, stopping to swim over clear sandbars and watching for dolphins that often ride the bow. Drop anchor at Praia de Castelhanos or Jabaquara, where your guide can arrange a simple moqueca lunch at a family-run caiçara kitchen before a quiet paddleboard session.

Getting around isn’t very walkable between beaches, and public transport is limited to local buses along the main road. You can book chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation; your local guide can arrange 4x4s or boats so you don’t worry about driving or parking.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Ilhabela inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Ilhabela

Use Ilhabela as a base to slip across the channel or up the coast for easy day trips and private tours that mix beaches, colonial streets, and rainforest views without rushing.

- São Sebastião Historic Centre and nearby beaches: Ride the ferry to cobbled lanes, a small waterfront square, and simple seafood spots, then add calm-water swims at Barequeçaba or São Francisco, which suits you if you like low-key history, local food, and time on the sand in one loop.

- Maresias and Paúba lookout: Chase lively surf, juice bars, and a short coastal trail to the Mirante de Paúba for wide views and sunset light, good for you if beach energy, photography, and an easy hike sound right.

- Ubatuba bays and Ilha Anchieta: Head north for protected coves like Enseada and Fortaleza and a boat out to Ilha Anchieta State Park for clear-water snorkelling and quiet beaches, ideal if marine life, gentle paddling, and warm swims are your thing.

- Paraty Colonial Town and bay islands: Go farther for whitewashed façades, art studios, and a relaxed lunch in the Historic Centre, then add a simple bay cruise to swim off small islands, which fits you if architecture, crafts, and time on the water feel like a good mix.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Ilhabela most travellers miss.
