Welcome to Bahia, the Land of Happiness! ☀️🌴 “Sorria, você está na Bahia!” — Smile, you’re in Bahia! I’m Sayuri, a proud Soteropolitana—born and raised in Salvador, Bahia—and a Brazilian Black Asian (Blasian) tour guide. I absolutely love my hometown, and I love sharing it with travelers through experiences that go beyond the usual tourist attractions. As a licensed national and South American tour guide, I create experiences throughout Salvador and Bahia, including destinations such as Cachoeira (Reconcavo Baiano - birthplace of Samba de Roda), Morro de São Paulo, Boipeba, Praia do Forte (Turtle Sanctuary - TAMAR) and more. Salvador is often called “Black Rome” because of the strength and richness of its African heritage. In my tours, I love exploring this history and culture through music, food, literature, religion, neighborhoods, architecture and—most importantly—the people who make Salvador what it is. I also believe that traveling should benefit the local community. Whenever possible, my tours support small local businesses and independent producers, while still including the iconic places you came all the way to Bahia to see. 🌎 Virtual tours from Brazil In 2020, virtual tourism opened a whole new world for me. I discovered that it was possible to share Salvador with people anywhere in the world—even when they couldn't travel here themselves. Since then, I’ve hosted virtual experiences for students, families, groups of friends and seniors, and I’m especially passionate about my live-streamed tours of Salvador’s Old Town and my Musical Experience in Black Rome. 🍴 Culture, food & stories My experiences are also inspired by my love of Brazilian travel, literature, music and gastronomy. I was a coordinator of Comida di Buteco in Salvador, a popular Brazilian food festival, which gave me an even deeper connection to the city's food scene and local entrepreneurs. Whether we are walking through the historic center, discovering Afro-Brazilian heritage, tasting local food, listening to music or exploring Salvador after dark, I want you to experience the city with someone who genuinely lives and loves it. If you’re looking for the Salvador beyond the postcard, I’d especially recommend my Afro Heritage Tour and my exclusive evening/night experiences, where you can experience Salvador’s nightlife like a local. I’m also happy to share my personal Salvador Guidebook, filled with my recommendations for places to eat, visit and explore. 📅 Planning your trip? I highly recommend booking in advance so I can help you plan your time in Bahia. Even if my calendar appears unavailable, please send me a message! Sometimes I have a half-day available or can arrange a tour during the day or evening. Come explore Bahia with a Sotero(a)—a real local from Salvador. I’ll show you the city I know, love and call home. “Minha vida é andar por este país / Pra ver se um dia descanso feliz…” — A Vida do Viajante, Luiz Gonzaga About me Licensed Tour Guide — Embratur / Ministry of Tourism Tour Guide — SENAC Bahia Graduate in Literature & English, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) Former lawyer — Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, São Paulo National & South American tour guide Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia Come to Bahia—and let a Soteropolitana show you around. ❤️

Overview of your Salvador tour

First time in Salvador? This is the perfect tour for you. A special day tour: feel the colors and flavours of Bahia, the best of town in a full day experience tour! During this tour we usually visit Historical Town (Pelourinho - walking tour), Cidade Baixa/Lower City, plus a panoramic view of Barra, Baia de Todos os Santos and Mercado Modelo. For lunch ( option stop, costs not included on the tour), I suggest options in Ribeira, Pedra Furada (Bonfim) or Pelourinho. You can not leave Bahia without our typical food- Muqueca, Bobo de Camarão or Escondidinho/Arrumadinho. Join the tour and come see Salvador!

Sayuri is a lovely guide. She's incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. She was very flexible with the tour. We deviated quite a bit from the normal tour based on my interests. I had an amazing time with her in Salvador and highly recommend her to everyone.

Very authentic! We had signed up for Sayuri's Salvador Highlights tour as we always like to do an "overview" type of tour on our first day in a new destination. Sayuri provided a perfect overview of Salvador - we drove through, and walked through, many neighborhoods. We saw and learned quite a lot, yet without feeling rushed and having time to rest for meals. Sayuri customized the tour for us, with consideration to our requests and other plans we had for our future days in the city. As a bonus, we got to meet some talented local designers and artists along our route. She also followed up with several ideas for what else to see/do and was forthright in her recommendations, which was refreshing and helpful. Too bad for us we were not able to hire Sayuri for a second day, as we might have also signed up for her African Heritage tour.

Sayuri was excellent. She planned an exceptional day which included everything we requested and more. She had thought about the heat and sun and put things in an order to minimize being in the sun. She was aware of the wheelchair and planned routes accordingly. She was totally prepared with an interesting and varied itinerary. She provided informative information and answered all questions. Her command of English was fluent. Outstanding day, I highly recommend her.

Sayuri is an amazing guide - she customized the tour to my interests and because of this, I was able to see so much that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. She's very knowledgeable about the city and state and her engaging style made me want to come back and learn more about the culture and history of Salvador and Bahia.

We had a wonderful day in Salvador with Sayuri as our guide. She was very knowledgeable about everything we did and visited. She was flexible about our schedule and paid particular attention to my desire for photography stops. She was well organized and we saw quite a lot of the city. The tour was fun and she is a delightful person.

Sayuri was a Godsend. When I booked with her, I had no idea that she would prove to be so integral to my first experience in Brazil. She was communicative and supportive, offering suggestions for activities in/around Salvador. The tour was unique, and more geared towards an authentic, local feel and as the day wore on, she was flexible, thoughtful, and became like part of our group/family. In the days after the tour, she continued to check on our us and help us navigate the city.

Your Salvador tour itinerary

The suggestion of standard tour (we can adjust for your needs): 1. Panoramic Tour Driving in Barra (option to stop by the lighthouse - 30 minutes stop) and Dique do Tororo. 2. Drive to Cidade Baixa (Ribeira, Bonfim and Ponta Humaita). Lunch Time (at Cidade Baixa or Pelourinho) 3. Last and mots important part of the way, walking in the historical part of the city Pelourinho+ Mercado Modelo (souvenir market is one option to finish our day). We adjust the time and tour for your needs! It is possible also to add a cost of a driver, it makes the day tour better as we do not need to walk back to the car after the walking and easier to stop for pictures. Highly recommend a driver in the high season (Jan/Feb) During the tour, I always make our time to stop in local places! *THIS TOUR AND PRICE DOES NOT APPLY FOR CARNIVAL SEASON
