Welcome to Bahia, the Land of Happiness! ☀️🌴 “Sorria, você está na Bahia!” — Smile, you’re in Bahia! I’m Sayuri, a proud Soteropolitana—born and raised in Salvador, Bahia—and a Brazilian Black Asian (Blasian) tour guide. I absolutely love my hometown, and I love sharing it with travelers through experiences that go beyond the usual tourist attractions. As a licensed national and South American tour guide, I create experiences throughout Salvador and Bahia, including destinations such as Cachoeira (Reconcavo Baiano - birthplace of Samba de Roda), Morro de São Paulo, Boipeba, Praia do Forte (Turtle Sanctuary - TAMAR) and more. Salvador is often called “Black Rome” because of the strength and richness of its African heritage. In my tours, I love exploring this history and culture through music, food, literature, religion, neighborhoods, architecture and—most importantly—the people who make Salvador what it is. I also believe that traveling should benefit the local community. Whenever possible, my tours support small local businesses and independent producers, while still including the iconic places you came all the way to Bahia to see. 🌎 Virtual tours from Brazil In 2020, virtual tourism opened a whole new world for me. I discovered that it was possible to share Salvador with people anywhere in the world—even when they couldn't travel here themselves. Since then, I’ve hosted virtual experiences for students, families, groups of friends and seniors, and I’m especially passionate about my live-streamed tours of Salvador’s Old Town and my Musical Experience in Black Rome. 🍴 Culture, food & stories My experiences are also inspired by my love of Brazilian travel, literature, music and gastronomy. I was a coordinator of Comida di Buteco in Salvador, a popular Brazilian food festival, which gave me an even deeper connection to the city's food scene and local entrepreneurs. Whether we are walking through the historic center, discovering Afro-Brazilian heritage, tasting local food, listening to music or exploring Salvador after dark, I want you to experience the city with someone who genuinely lives and loves it. If you’re looking for the Salvador beyond the postcard, I’d especially recommend my Afro Heritage Tour and my exclusive evening/night experiences, where you can experience Salvador’s nightlife like a local. I’m also happy to share my personal Salvador Guidebook, filled with my recommendations for places to eat, visit and explore. 📅 Planning your trip? I highly recommend booking in advance so I can help you plan your time in Bahia. Even if my calendar appears unavailable, please send me a message! Sometimes I have a half-day available or can arrange a tour during the day or evening. Come explore Bahia with a Sotero(a)—a real local from Salvador. I’ll show you the city I know, love and call home. “Minha vida é andar por este país / Pra ver se um dia descanso feliz…” — A Vida do Viajante, Luiz Gonzaga About me Licensed Tour Guide — Embratur / Ministry of Tourism Tour Guide — SENAC Bahia Graduate in Literature & English, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) Former lawyer — Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, São Paulo National & South American tour guide Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia Come to Bahia—and let a Soteropolitana show you around. ❤️

Overview of your Salvador tour

Ola!!! Come and meet the roots of our AfroHeritage with a local Brazilian "blasian" (black/asian) guide. This tour is for you if you want to visit the old town with time and local experience. In this tour we will NOT talk about the amazing Portuguese Colonial constructions but we will understand deeply the city that has a port with 1. 2 million enslaved africans arriving in our port and that kept lots of our traditions, mixed with the First Nations and European in Salvador, Bahia. Pelourinho is also a World Human Heritage recognized by UNESCO and the tour will be a great opportunity for photos and I can include a workshop of Percussion, Capoeira or Dance class in our tour. I highly recommend to add these activities and get more involved with our black community. We will have time to talk to local business owners, visit the museums and spend a lovely time in the Old Town. Slow Travelling Tour Carnaval Museum this tour can NOT be booked on Monday.

Sayuri is extremely knowledgable about the history and culture of Salvador and Brazil. This enables her to make the connections between different aspects of life and how they interconnect (ie how food connects to religion). And her smile is so addictive!

Highly recomend this interesting tour about black history and carnival! Sayuri made a custom tour for me and my parents when visiting Salvador. She was extreamly helpfull, positive and thoughtfull when planing our stay. We had a wonderfull day and felt safe with her as se seemed to know everyone in town. Shes very nolegable about black history and the culture and combines it personal stories during the day. I have not met such an engaged and lovely guide! Shes popular so book early

First, and most importantly, Sayuri clearly loves what she does! It is evident from the moment you meet her and quite frequently during the tour from how knowledgeable and thorough she is. Additionally, she is appreciated by the various members in the community and has a very friendly rapport with so many of them. During my tour she went way above board to accommodate my requests, and made me feel like family as I ventured throughout Salvador de Bahia. Simply put she is the best!

Sayuri was an excellent guide and got my time in Salvador off to a terrific start. I am working on a project that involves Afro-Brazilian history so this tour was a perfect introduction for me to the historic city centre. She took me to key places around the Pelourinho and, just as importantly, spoke to me about this history and answered my 8 million questions! She was in contact before the walk too and has been super helpful throughout. Obrigada!

Sayuri was the best ever tour guide we've had - hands down! We were a tricky group of 6 - extended family + spouses, wide age range, and a mix of heritage. Sayuri masterfully engaged with all of us and with ease throughout the 2 days. She took her time to get to know us + our interests, attentively check on us throughout and suggest +/- change some of itinerary accordingly. We left feeling very enriched and felt very connected to Salvador. Muito obrigada!
