Hi my name is Elke. As your personal driver and tour guide I offer unique excursions to the Dutch country side. All my excursions are carefully designed to provide the most authentic and genuine experience of the Dutch landscape as possible. I have been a citizen of Amsterdam for 20 years now and have always been exploring its inner and outer surroundings, on foot, by bike and by car. I have extensive knowledge of the many small back roads and villages. Often inaccessible by big touring cars and therefor still unknown to mass tourism and exploitation. My focus is on providing exclusive , off the beaten path, excursions featuring everything that is so characteristic for the Dutch landscape like polders, windmills, low horizons and big skies. Experience a land created below sealevel. I am a certified teacher for art and cultural history. Specialties: Off the beaten track excursions North of Amsterdam I am not a museum guide. Museums usually have their own guides.

Are you avoiding mass tourism but eager to experience the iconic beauty of Holland—tulips, windmills, quaint villages, wooden houses, drawbridges, and wooden shoes? If so, this tour is perfect for you! While most visitors head to the busy Keukenhof gardens south of Amsterdam, a lesser-known gem awaits in northern Holland. Here, you’ll find the country’s largest flower fields, with endless tulips and daffodils, as well as charming spots like the Hortus Bulborum—all with far fewer tourists. In addition to stunning flower fields, this region boasts typical Dutch landscapes, complete with windmills, picturesque villages, and peaceful pastures dotted with cows. This tour offers a chance to immerse yourself in Holland’s iconic charm without the crowds. Please note: The flower season depends on weather. The tour is scheduled during peak bloom, but feel free to inquire about other dates.

We give Elke 5 stars! She is a wonderful guide! She met us at our hotel and she reviewed the plan and asked if we wanted any changes. Very flexible. What a special day. We traveled the backroads of Holland and saw so many beautiful scenes of green fields, birds, and grazing animals. The roads were remarkable. Our first view of the tulips was at a special park in the north and the tulips were amazing! No big crowds. Enjoyed a cup of tea while enjoying the view of tulips. We walked on a berm looking at the North sea to experience the dikes and how they function. Elke drove us to the tulip fields to see the immense areas blooming with tulips and locals buying them for Easter. The finale was see a working windmill and climbing inside. We learned a lot, took pictures and made a new friend. Dennis and Susan S.
Elle was fabulous! A laid back tour a bit off of the regular tourist path. Easy going with much knowledge of the area! We would highly recommend!
Elke was excellent. Extremely knowledgable about the area, knew the history that shaped the polder region. We toured several different tulip farms, along other attractions although the weather did not cooperate (a bit rainy) we did not feel that we missed out on anything. Very personable, and willing to adapt as needed. First rate English,
Outstanding tour. Took us to areas that tourists generally don't see. She had lots of information about all the areas on her tour. All around nice, fun to be with person. So glad we did this tour!
Elke provided a perfect tour for us. She was so caring and considerate of our special requests and gave us one of the best private tours we have ever had with Tours By Locals. She is so knowledgable and wanted us to have the best experience possible.
Pick up at your Hotel -An hour's drive up North during which I can explain all about the origin of the tulip and its place among Dutch history. -A stop at a lookout point over the North sea where you can see for yourself that we truly live below sea level! -A stop at Hortus Bulborum (not on Sundays) or the the tulip garden at Anna Palowna. -A drive among the flower fields with plenty of options to leave the car for pictures and a stop for nice cup of coffee! -A visit to the Schermer windmills. Where you will see a working windmill on the inside. -A stop at a quaint village like de Rijp or even the cheese town of Edam is possible. (A bit more touristy but possible is an added visit to a wooden shoe maker)
