Hello my name is Martin and I have been a tour guide in Edinburgh for over 15 years. I have a passion for Scotland and it's rich tapestry of history. Like the many different tartans and kilts which form our national dress, the tales of our past are equally colourful. I specialise in Private Tours in my home town of Edinburgh a World Heritage Site, together with the attractions in the surrounding area.I also specialize in tours to St Andrews not just for golfers. I was born, raised and educated in this unique city but it was not until I returned after working in other cities that I came to appreciate what was here. My many years working in the design and installation of air conditioning and ventilation In shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants gives me an extensive knowledge of the range, quality and value available in the city and surrounding area which I am happy to pass on to my clients. All my tours (except Harry Potter and Edinburgh and The Edinburgh of Adam Smith) are carried out wearing my kilt. In a recent referral from a client he stated that it was interesting to watch other tour groups rushing to photograph his private guide. I amuse, educate and entertain by combining history with stories of people and places that we view. My Tours are easily modified for the less mobile, or to incorporate any special requirements. My ongoing involvement in the life and traditions of the City of Edinburgh includes; Membership of the Old Edinburgh Club (founded 1908) Membership of the Edinburgh Merchant Company ( founded 1681 ) Membership of The Society of High Constables of Edinburgh ( founded 1611 ) An Edinburgh Festival Volunteer Guide Membership of Edinburgh Tourist Guides Association. My training includes walking tours in the Old and New towns of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, Roslin Chapel and step on tours of the city and surrounding countryside Where vehicles are used I always employ a driver.Parking restrictions require vehicles to be parked some considerable distance from most attractions, a driver can drop us off at the entrance, and collect again when visit completed.

Overview of your Edinburgh tour

This tour enables the less mobile to see the most important parts of Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace or the Royal Yacht Brittannia This tour designed specially for the less mobile utilises a vehicle and driver who can drop off outside the attractions and an experienced guide who amuses , educates and entertains throughout the tour. In Edinburgh Castle special vehicles take less mobile and wheelchair users to the highest parts of the castle and the guide will arrange access to the Crown Jewels by private elevator. In Holyrood Palace again the guide can arrange use of a private elevator to access the upper floor and where access is not practical for less mobile an adjacent video details the inaccessible area. In the Royal Yacht lifts are available for all floors. This tour includes a lunch break where the guide stops the clock but continues to talk about Edinburgh attractions.

Martin loves his beautiful City! He shared many things from his life, including his childhood. It was wonderful that he employed a driver to make sure we were able to get as close to entrances, and thereby allowing us to have Martin's full attention for the customized itinerary, including inside visits to Royal Brittania, Holyrood Palace, and the CASTLE with afternoon tea! He shared that he had participated in the TATTOO, and was a Fellow Rotarian! We felt very special with the only Guide in a kilt!!

Martin was an excellent tour guide. He made everything as easy as possible for us with our mobility limitations. He was very accomodating, knowledgeable and personable. We never could have seen all we did without his expertise. We thank him for making our time in Scotland so enjoyable.

My family and I had a wonderful day touring with Martin. He's a very knowledgeable and personable guide. He was able to keep us engaged throughout the day and was able to get my wife to areas she would not have been able to see without his help. I would definitely use him again if we're able to return some day.

Martin McMenigall Is the most wonderful guide. We are a family of six - two Granddaughters 8 & 11 plus two 40 plus parents and two grandparents. He wore his kilt and explained what he was wearing. He charmed us all. He took us to some Harry Potter sights and Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood. He included a playground break for the granddaughters to run off their energy with a bungy cord swing. He knows where the hidden elevators are for those of us who can't do grand stairs.
