Hello, please let me introduce myself. I'm John Mc. I was born and lived most of my life in Edinburgh. I'm a fully qualified taxi driver in Edinburgh with over 20 years experience . I'm a fully accredited tour guide for Edinburgh I have completed the worshipful company of Hackney Carriage Drivers tour course for Edinburgh . I am also an accredited whiskey ambassador. It would be my pleasure to show and tell you the many sites and stories that Edinburgh and Scotland has to offer. I can offer a full range of tours of Edinburgh from 4, 8 and 12 hours. I can also offer a wide range of full day tours outside of Edinburgh from Stirling , St Andrews, The Scottish Borders and Outlander tours along with the Highlands of Scotland. Or I can build a tour that suits your tastes and requirements. I also offer a full range of tours throughout Scotland's whisky regions and distilleries, something completely different. All at your own pace (although I set itineraries up you are in control). So relax and take everything at your pace. I want you to have as much fun as I do on all the tours given. You can tell me what you want and I will make a tour that fits and suits you. All tours are bespoke to each clients requirements. My philosophy is to treat every tour as it is your only chance to visit Scotland. I will make every tour unique for all my customer's. I look forward to seeing you . Sit back, relax, take in the sites and hear the stories and tales of the historical city of Edinburgh from the back of your own private black cab. Hear of some of Edinburgh's most famous characters. Also, some of the lesser known characters but nonetheless, still impressive! I will answer the many questions that you may have and even the ones you might not have thought about still! What I really like the most about this tour is that it is an experience for all the family! especially children, as I'm just a big kid at heart! I look forward to meeting and sharing this fun packed and informative day with yourself.
John in his kilt was the perfect host for our tour of Edinburgh! He has an amazingly broad knowledge of history, as well as of many quirks and hidden gems in architecture. He matches his pace to yours. His Black Car taxi was roomy and comfortable. We couldn't have asked for anything more!

John did a great job on our tour. Rather than doing the city tour, he took us to Culross and Dunfermline Abbey. We had a wonderful day listening to stories and enjoying a the Scottish narration. His black taxi was large and he even supplied us with some Scottish treats. We bought Scottish tablets to bring home for the family after tasting them. I highly recommend John! He dressed in his kilt and explained what all the parts were called. A truly great day.
Our half-day private black cab tour of Edinburgh with John was outstanding. From the moment we were picked up he brought the city to life with incredible stories, local insight and a deep knowledge of Edinburgh’s history — not just facts, but the people, scandals and moments that shaped the city. John read us perfectly, tailored the tour to our interests and showed us hidden corners we would never have found alone. His restaurant tips and walking suggestions were invaluable for the rest of our stay. The black cab was warm, comfortable and ideal for winter, allowing us to see so much without feeling rushed. This was one of the highlights of our trip and worth every cent.
Vincent was great. We all enjoyed his humor. His car was clean and comfortable. He made sure my sister, whom I was worried about walking too much, was not overwhelmed. He offered her to stay in the car when she thought walking may be too much for her. I would definitely use Vincent again on my next trip to Edinburgh.
We give John 5 stars but we would give him 10 stars if we could. This was a wonderful tour of Edinburgh. John’s command of the history of the area is amazing. He is able to identify your interests and quickly adjust your tour to meet those interests. If we are ever back in Edinburgh we will definitely call on John again.
- Pick up from hotel accommodation cruise ships etc for 9 am. - Start tour at Edinburgh Castle hear the stories and tales of how the castle was built and changed hands. - We then head down the high street hearing more stories of the old town and wander up and down the closes and courtyards. - Visit St Giles Cathedral and the Grassmarket. - We then make our way to The New Town of Edinburgh the historical port of Leith and see the real home of golf. Please note if you are on Cruise Ships from South Queensferry this tour will start from that point traveling to city centre and back to South Queensferry is around 50 minutes. This will take up some of your tour time. Feel free to contact me if you would like to customize this tour.
