Ross was an excellent guide. He was communicating with us since day 1 and he was waiting for us at the airport. He knows a lot of information about the history of Edinburgh and we had an awesome time visiting many sites in the city. He was keeping us engaged the whole trip. We will definitely work with him next time we visit Scotland.
Ross was a terrific guide. He was knowledgeable, personable, and fun. He tailored the tour exactly to the needs of our group. We had a wonderful day with him and recommend him most highly.
Ross was an amazing tour guide! We had a fantastic day that included history, sightseeing, shopping, and picture stops. Ross was flexible and worked with us to provide exactly what we were looking for. If we’re ever back in Scotland, we’d definitely book with Ross again.
We had a fantastic day exploring Edinburgh with Ross H, booked through ToursByLocals.
Despite our cruise ship disembarkation taking about an hour longer than expected, Ross stayed in constant communication with us and patiently adjusted our start time so we could still make the most of the day. From the very beginning, that flexibility set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Our first stop was Dean’s Bridge, where we took in sweeping views of the river and the surrounding architecture, an excellent introduction to the city. We then headed into the Grassmarket area, with its lively atmosphere and nods to “Diagon Alley,” before walking up toward Edinburgh Castle and along the Royal Mile, taking in the history and character of the Old Town.
Next was Calton Hill, where we were treated to incredible panoramic views over the city. Even with the rain starting to move in, it was gave us a great vantage point.
Lunch was arranged by Ross at The Sheep’s Heid Inn, the oldest pub in Scotland. It was a great stop, relaxed, historic, and with excellent burgers and drinks that suited the whole group.
In the afternoon, we visited Craigmillar Castle, which turned out to be one of the most memorable stops. We had plenty of time to explore the rooms and grounds, and the history and atmosphere of the site really stood out.
We finished the day at Rosslyn Chapel, where Ross shared the fascinating history of the building and its famous stone pillars. It was a strong final stop before heading back to the cruise port.
What stood out most about Ross was his humor, deep knowledge of the area, and how accommodating he was, especially for members of our group with mobility considerations. He made sure everyone was included and comfortable throughout the day, and that we never felt rushed.
We’re very grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Ross H for anyone looking for a thoughtful, flexible, and engaging private tour of Edinburgh.
