Hello, my name is Sarah, I am a qualified Blue Badge tour guide in English and Italian, part of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association. My main passions are history, human beings and storytelling, that is why I became a tour guide. Being empathetic is a fundamental skill when working with people, that is why my tours are different according to the age, nationality, and needs of my customers. Delivering tours, for me, means also to have a good time and my enjoyment is infectious! Edinburgh is a vibrant jewel immersed in history and culture and it will be my pleasure to share it with you. My fortes are completely customised walking tours: from 3 hours to all day or days, I take people around and make them discover this marvellous city, through my eyes. All my tours can be customised to meet your personal interests and needs. Edinburgh has a unique history, darker and more unexpected than you might imagine. Its tales come from a past of wars, outbreaks of terrible illness and disease, corruption, tortures and persecutions. Times of witch hunting, pagan rituals and public executions, when the city was known as "Auld Reekie" and its streets were full of dangers. Join me in this 3 hour daytime walking tour, suitable for adults and children. Some stories may not be suitable for really young children, but they can participate in the tours at the parents' discretion.
- We will start the tour in front of St Giles Cathedral, on the Royal Mile. We will learn about the stories behind the Heart of Midlothian, the "Mercat Cross" and some buried closes with their legends. - We will visit some alleys and hear about how difficult was to live in Edinburgh in the Middle-ages. - We will then go down and visit two cemeteries and hear about "Resurrectionists" and murderers. - We will end the tour around one of the best panoramic points of the city, Calton Hill hearing about witch trials and tortures. If you have any specific questions or interest, please feel free to send me a message. I can customize the tour for you.
