Edinburgh has a unique history, darker and more unexpected than you might imagine. Its tales come from a past of wars, outbreaks of terrible illness and disease, corruption, tortures and persecutions. Times of witch hunting, pagan rituals and public executions, when the city was known as "Auld Reekie" and its streets were full of dangers. Join me in this 3 hour daytime walking tour, suitable for adults and children. Some stories may not be suitable for really young children, but they can participate in the tours at the parents' discretion.
This tour was amazing! Sarah was so lovely and knowledgeable. She really hit all my interests when it came to the history of the city. We walked all around the city and getting to explore and learn about it through her was truly amazing. I learned so much. I highly recommend getting a tour with Sarah. She is funny, knowledgeable, and listens to your interests and tailors the tour to what you want to know and see.
The tour with Sarah was delightful. Sarah was right on time. She knew our interest in seeing the local cemetaries. Also, we had some interest in the development of the Harry Potter stories and sites that seem to be related to the stories were pointed out. Sarahs interest in getting to know our interests was so helpful. We have excellent photos of us in the local parks. Edinburgh is an amazing city!
We had the best time with Sarah on her 3 hr Tour of Edinburgh. It was wonderful to see the city through her eyes. She was very attentive before the tour checking what we were interested in to make the experience as personalized as possible. Our 14 yr old son loved her as well and we cannot say enough about her warmth, enthousiasm and outstanding knowledge of the area. She is the best and we highly recommend her !
Sarah was bright and cheery, and extremely flexible with us! She gave us terrific information and answered our many questions in a friendly and understanding way. Despite a drastic change in the weather that had us scurrying for cover, Sarah provided fascinating tidbits about the many places we visited—and several we did not get to see because of the showers! A wonderful day, and a fabulous job!
- We will start the tour in front of St Giles Cathedral, on the Royal Mile. We will learn about the stories behind the Heart of Midlothian, the "Mercat Cross" and some buried closes with their legends. - We will visit some alleys and hear about how difficult was to live in Edinburgh in the Middle-ages. - We will then go down and visit two cemeteries and hear about "Resurrectionists" and murderers. - We will end the tour around one of the best panoramic points of the city, Calton Hill hearing about witch trials and tortures.
