Jewish Lisbon Half Day Private Tour

An Exceptional Tour with Gloria - A Highlight of our Trip We had an absolutely wonderful experience touring the city and exploring its rich Jewish history with Gloria. She is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the culture and heritage of the area. One of the true highlights was her arranging a special visit to the Shaare Tikva Synagogue. Gloria's kindness and flexibility made the day even more memorable. We met another couple on our ship who were also interested in learning the city's Jewish history, and she managed to expand our tour so they could join. If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend spending a half day or even better a full day with Gloria. Her professionalism, warmth and deep knowledge make her an exception guide and true ambassador for the city.

This was our first experience with Tours by Locals in Lisbon with Gloria. Our first time in Lisbon as well, with no understanding of the history or topography--after a long overnight flight from the US. Gloria was an amazing guide who acquainted us with the history of Portugal, and the highlights of central Lisbon. It was less a tour of Jewish Lisbon. Gloria is entertaining and enlightening. It seemed her knowledge of history and culture was limitless. Any subject we were curious about, she could expound upon. We spent an additional 5 days in Lisbon; this tour enriched our understanding of places we wanted to revisit. Her stories also motivated us to read more about the landmarks and about Portugal in general--its poets, its kings, queens, cartographers and explorers, and the wars that have been fought to possess it. We totally recommend her; we will come back to Portugal!

Gloria and Joao! the perfect Lisbon hosts! Gloria was fantastic. It was a two for one tour as she (and her husband!) spent the day with us. With him driving, we were able to pop out quickly while he parked, waited or circled which made the whole tour very efficient and we got the most possible out of the day. We saw the synagogue and much of Lisbon. She wove Jewish history in throughout the day. Besides all the sights, she insisted we stop for a pastry and it was delicious. I'm writing this a bit after the fact but, just the other night, we saw a tourism show that featured Lisbon and we kept saying "Hey we were there!" or "We saw that, remember?"

This tour was outstanding. Gloria gave an extensive and detailed history of the Jewish presence in Portugal.
