Jewish Lisbon Half Day Private Tour

This tour will take you through the Jewish presence in Lisbon, Portugal! In late 15th century Jews had to respect a royal law of either conversion to Catholicism or departure from Portugal. In early 16th century the court of Inquisition will actually open doors in the heart of the city where they performed terrifying "acts of faith". But there are still vestiges of the Jewish presence in Lisbon till the 16th century and other examples as helping Jewish run away to the USA during WW2. Let's pass by or visit Lisbon's 100 year old synagogue, built in a hidden way because Catholic Church didn't want people to learn about other religions but the Catholic one. Let's then focus on the layout of Lisbon as we walk through the Jewish areas in the city such as Baixa downtown district. We'll also visit the remaining little streets of the Jewish district in Alfama. As we go, I'll let you know about Jewish roots in our culture. Even if the Jewish presence is not very tangible, our history is so rich!!
