The most impressive symbol of this era is without a doubt the magnificent Monastery of Saint Jerome, built on the location from where Vasco da Gama set sail to discover the sea route to India. It is a gem of the very unique portuguese manueline style. Not far is another important symbol of the city, Tower of Belém, of tremendous importance because of its defense purposes. We will learn about the voyages of exploration and envision the routes of the Portuguese in a world map on the floor as we admire the statues of the most prominent personalities represented at the Monument to the Discoveries. We cannot miss a visit to the famous pastry shop to try the custard tarts.

Meet at the Tower of Belém and visit the exterior. Continue to the Monument and stop to admire the world map and statues of navigators. Possibility to visit the inside of Saint Jerome 's monastery ( tickets not included - purchase online and with a timed entrance). Church is free admission. Monastery is closed on mondays. Stop at the Pastelaria de Belém, famous bakery.
