Our first stop is Coimbra, home to Portugal’s oldest university (1291) and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a guided visit inside the university, discovering traditions and stories most visitors miss. We then continue to Porto for a relaxed panoramic tour highlighting the riverfront, bridges, and historic districts. The following day is dedicated to the breathtaking Douro Valley, a UNESCO-listed landscape and the world’s oldest demarcated wine region (1756). Surrounded by terraced vineyards, enjoy a unique regional lunch with local products, wines, and Port. In the afternoon, visit Lamego and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, famous for its monumental Baroque staircase. We also stop in Braga, the “city of archbishops,” to see its cathedral, Bom Jesus do Monte, and historic funicular. On the return to Lisbon, stroll through Aveiro, the charming “Portuguese Venice.”
Your Lisbon tour itinerary
Day 1 – 350 km Departure from Lisbon to Óbidos for a walking tour and a taste of the local cherry liqueur. Continue north to Porto for a panoramic tour and city visit. Overnight in Porto. Day 2 – 300 km Visit Amarante with a coffee break and local pastries, then drive to the Douro Valley, UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s oldest demarcated wine region (1756). Enjoy a tasting with regional products: homemade bread, smoked sausages and ham, cheeses, olive oil, jams, wines and Port. In the afternoon, visit Lamego and the sanctuary of Senhora dos Remédios. Overnight in Porto. Day 3 – 440 km From Porto to Braga, “the city of archbishops,” to see its cathedral, Bom Jesus do Monte and the 1882 funicular. On the return to Lisbon, stop in Aveiro, the “Portuguese Venice,” famous for its canals and salt flats. Note: Tour can also start in Porto and end in Lisbon. Extra days may be added to visit more sites.
