Nice to meet you! My name is Monique, which is a French name but my roots are very much in The Netherlands. My grandfather came from a family of famous Tulip traders and there’s even a bulb named after the family. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place in the world. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the interesting backstories and anecdotes about history, culture, beauty and fascinating details. All the things that make Amsterdam, its canals, the buildings and the art come alive. I have a great passion for the wonderful paintings and collections in the museums. Both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are some of my favorite places in the city and I love helping you discover them in the most inspiring and memorable way. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. You will see what an important part this is in the history of Amsterdam. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city like an insider. Whether you’re looking for a deep understanding of the city or a museum, or if you’re mostly looking for the special spots and highlights with your kids, all is possible. Over the past 10 years, I’ve guided many different guests on all kinds of private tours through Amsterdam. Therefore I can easily customize a tour for you. You’re very welcome to tell me what you’d like to explore, even if it’s not mentioned on my profile page. I’m happy to create a special itinerary for you. I have: *Experienced tour guide (11 years) * A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism * A registration at the Chamber of Commerce * License to guide in Amsterdam *Official guide in the Rijksmuseum *Official guide in the Van Gogh Museum

Discover Vincent van Gogh through the world’s largest collection of his paintings. On this private tour, I’ll take you on a journey through his fascinating life and art. Follow Vincent from his early years as an artist to the vivid colors and expressive brushstrokes of his famous later works. Along the way, we’ll discover his struggles and ambitions, his inspirations, friendships, anxieties and moments of joy — and see how they found their way into his art. My tours are informal and engaging, filled with stories and fascinating details that bring both the paintings and Vincent himself closer to you. This is one of my favorite tours in Amsterdam, and I love sharing my passion for Van Gogh and his remarkable art with my guests.
• Discover how Vincent decided to become an artist and see some of his fascinating early works. • Look closely at his self-portraits and learn what they can tell us about Vincent himself. • Hear about his special relationship with his brother Theo, who played an important role throughout his life and career. • See how meeting the Impressionists in Paris transformed his work and inspired him to experiment with brighter colors and a completely different way of painting. • Discover the story behind the famous Sunflowers and what they meant to Vincent. • Find out about a surprising secret hidden in The Bedroom. • Look more closely at Van Gogh’s characteristic colors and expressive brushstrokes — and discover details you might easily miss when visiting the museum on your own. • See famous masterpieces alongside lesser-known works that help tell the extraordinary story of Van Gogh’s life and development as an artist.
