If you want to truly understand Amsterdam and the Netherlands in a short time, I will make sure you get much more out of your visit than you would on your own. My tours are designed to help you see the city in context, understand the stories behind what you see, and enjoy a relaxed, personal experience without stress or rushing. What guests value most is that they leave with a clear understanding of Amsterdam. Not just the highlights, but how the city works and why it developed the way it did. I connect art, history, and daily life in a way that is easy to follow and enjoyable. Every tour is adapted to your interests, pace, and level of knowledge. My main areas of expertise are Dutch art at the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, the history of Amsterdam, Jewish history in the Netherlands (with broader context beyond only the well-known stories), and Dutch water management. I also enjoy showing how modern Amsterdam functions today, from neighbourhoods and architecture to everyday local life. I now focus fully on half-day private walking tours in Amsterdam and Haarlem. These tours are flexible and personal. We walk where it makes sense, but we can also use public transport or arrange a private transfer when needed. For example, this works well for a visit between Amsterdam and Haarlem. The pace is always adjusted to your comfort and interests. I have worked in tourism for more than 20 years. Since 2015 I guide guests in Amsterdam and the Netherlands through ToursByLocals. I also hold several degrees in tourism and I am one of the few officially certified Dutch “National Guide” graduates with distinction. Before guiding, I worked as a travel organiser for Dutch travellers going abroad. This helps me understand exactly what international guests expect: clear communication, good organisation, and a smooth, well-planned day. My main motto is simple: our day together must be informative and fun. I only offer tours I am genuinely passionate about, because that is what brings the city to life for my guests. I enjoy working with curious travellers who want more than sightseeing. If you want to understand Amsterdam and the Netherlands in a meaningful way, I will make sure your time here is both enjoyable and valuable. I look forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam or Haarlem.

Before the Second World War, more than 85,000 Jews lived in Amsterdam. After the war, only 5,000 remained. How could this happen? During this tour, we follow the steps that led to the destruction of Amsterdam's Jewish community. The Nazi authorities worked according to a clear plan: registration, concentration, and deportation. In just sixteen months, tens of thousands of people disappeared from the city. Walking through the former Jewish Quarter, we visit the places where these events unfolded. You will see the former Jewish Theatre (Hollandsche Schouwburg), the National Holocaust Museum, and the Holocaust Memorial. A visit to the Portuguese Synagogue is included. Remarkably, little has changed here since 1670. This tour is about the people who lived here, the choices that were made, and the traces that remain visible in Amsterdam today.
Vincent was patient, proffesional, knowledgeable and helpful. Absolutely a great tour!
Vincent was very knowledgeable about this very tragic time in Amsterdam's history. We saw key areas and places of events. Vincent catered the tour for us and helped us see what we wanted to see. Definitely would recommend this if you're interested in Jewish history in The Netherlands.
Vincent is a great tour guide. He didn't rush us as we were walking. He was very information and extremely well presented. We enjoyed talking with him. Would recommend him to anyone wanting a tour guide. Thanks Vincent!
Vincent was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 hours with him and learned so much. Would highly recommend him.
Vincent is an exceptional guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of Amsterdam and Netherlands. We learned an incredible amount in the three days we spent with him. In addition he has exceptional knowledge of art, which he shares with clarity and enthusiasm. We have traveled extensively all of the world and he is one of the best guides we have ever had. We highly recommend him to anyone who wants to learn and gain insights into the country's past and present.
Vincent was extremely knowledgeable of Jewish History in Amsterdam, and an expert in art history - particularly in Van Gogh. His detailed tour of the Van Gogh Museum was incredible. In general, Vincent was a pleasure to be with for two full days - fun, personable, and very flexible. Another fun suggestion Vincent made was a private chocolate tasting, which my wife and I enjoyed greatly. I hope to return to Amsterdam one day as there's lots to see, and I would definitely want to do it with Vincent.

This is a walking tour. If your hotel is not in walking distance of the Jewish quarter, we will use public transport. I will bring tickets and they are included if necessary.
