Nice to meet you! My name is Monique and I’m a true Dutchie, born and raised in the Netherlands. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place in the world. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the anecdotes, details and fun facts that make Amsterdam and everything you see come alive. I love history, culture, architecture and local shops. Yet my biggest passion is the art in the museums, where I have been guiding almost daily in the past years. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city the best way. Whether you’re looking for a deep understanding of the city or a museum, or just the special spots and highlights, all is possible. Over the past 11 years, I’ve guided many different guests on all kinds of private tours through Amsterdam. Therefore I can easily customize a tour for you. Many tours can also be combined into a half-day or full-day experience, for example a city walk with a museum visit, or a day full of art, history, local life and local tastings along the way. You’re very welcome to tell me what you’d like to explore, even if it’s not mentioned on my profile page. I’m happy to create a special itinerary for you. I have: *Bachelors degree in Journalism *Experienced tour guide (11 years) * License to guide in Amsterdam City Center *Official guide in the Rijksmuseum *Official guide in the Van Gogh Museum Just to mention: I do also guide in the smaller villages / countryside around Amsterdam. I’m not a driver though. But if you wish to, I can arrange a driver for us.

In one of the most stunning buildings in Amsterdam, you can also find some of the best art in the world. Think about Rembrandt’s Nightwatch and Vermeer’s Milkmaid. And of course, the Rijksmuseum (National Museum) has so much more in it’s beautiful collection. I will lead you with my stories to the highlights of the museum. The journey will go past old globes and naval paintings, through special collections with Delft Blue and famous Doll’s Houses. Giving you the feeling of life in the 17th Century. Then we’ll enter the Gallery of Honor with the masterpieces of Rembrandt and other Old Dutch Masters . You will have time to look at the artworks in detail and learn about the painters and the time in which they made their wonderful paintings. Eventually we will also spend time on a bit more modern art like from the 19th century, like the paintings of Van Gogh. You will be fully immersed in our Dutch art.
