Nice to meet you! My name is Monique, which is a French name but my roots are very much in The Netherlands. My grandfather came from a family of famous Tulip traders and there’s even a bulb named after the family. I’ve always lived close to Amsterdam and fell in love with the city as a child. After moving here 25 years ago, it’s still my favorite place in the world. With a background in journalism, I’ve always had a broad curiosity and a love for stories. That’s also what I enjoy about guiding: sharing the interesting backstories and anecdotes about history, culture, beauty and fascinating details. All the things that make Amsterdam, its canals, the buildings and the art come alive. I have a great passion for the wonderful paintings and collections in the museums. Both the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum are some of my favorite places in the city and I love helping you discover them in the most inspiring and memorable way. I also have a special interest in the Jewish history in Amsterdam, including the WWII and Anne Frank. You will see what an important part this is in the history of Amsterdam. I’m especially happy when I can make you experience the city like an insider. Whether you’re looking for a deep understanding of the city or a museum, or if you’re mostly looking for the special spots and highlights with your kids, all is possible. Over the past 10 years, I’ve guided many different guests on all kinds of private tours through Amsterdam. Therefore I can easily customize a tour for you. You’re very welcome to tell me what you’d like to explore, even if it’s not mentioned on my profile page. I’m happy to create a special itinerary for you. I have: *Experienced tour guide (11 years) * A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism * A registration at the Chamber of Commerce * License to guide in Amsterdam *Official guide in the Rijksmuseum *Official guide in the Van Gogh Museum

Step with me into history of Amsterdam's Jewish community on this 3 hour walking tour. We'll explore the old Jewish Quarter, where you will hear about the life before, during and after WW2, and follow into the footsteps of Anne Frank. Learn about the start of a flourishing Jewish community in the 17th century. And get an understanding on how Amsterdam became a safe haven for Jewish people. I will also show you where the first round-ups happened in World War 2 during the Nazi occupation. And tell you how the city responded, like the dockworker presented in the monument. You will get a full view of what happened in Amsterdam during five years of war. After a break for coffee we will go to the centre of the city, with the National Monument and famous canals, leading to the Anne Frank House. If you would like to have tickets to the Anne Frank House included, please contact me for options before you book. Also if you would like to include a visit to the Portuguese Synagogue.
- Portuguese Synagogue (Outside) - A remarkable 17th-century landmark - Dockworker monument - Commemorating the February Strike in 1941) - Stumble Stones and the National Holocaust Names Monument - Hollandse Schouwburg - Once a theatre, later used as deportation site - Streets, courtyards and hidden corners where daily life unfolded before the war - Dam Square with the National Monument - Anne Frank House (Outside)
