Good day! Just contact me and we built your tour together! My name is Wilbert B. Born Dutch and I love showing you my country and make good memories together! My interest for nature and cultural- and national Dutch history, combined with the pleasure I get from giving people a good time are the main reasons for being a guide. Of course I love to take you around in Amsterdam and to the windmills as described in my standard tours and tell you about it all, but just as well I built you your own customized tour and take you to the less busy places, take you for a nature hike or a canoeing trip, chase your ancestors, have good local food at beautiful places and so on and so forth. I only guide groups of more than 8 people if they themselves arrange or have arranged transportation for it.

The little water village of Giethoorn is often referred to as "Venice of the North. " Small houses along small canals still witness the times when the peat moor was exploited. Harsh work in harsh conditions resulted in a now well preserved and lifely setting worth visiting. From poverty to prosperity the village displays itself in a setting that can be best described as a pleasant, picturesque, romantic and photogenic. Several Dutch cities in the east were major players in the medieval Hanseatic trading union which was a cooperation of traders and cities along the North and East Sea shores. It's a story about wealth and success in the east of Holland, where the West of Holland was more, and later in time, into trade with the Orient. The city of Deventer probably was the most important city among those cities and that reflects in its decorum. The city has been beautifully restored. Experience the daily pace of life in a typical Dutch city that is not crowded with tourists.
This was one of our favorite tours by locals. The charming village of Giethorn and medieval city of Deventer expanded our Netherlands experience. Will has great knowledge of the area and was conscientious to adapt our tour to fit our needs for the day. Highly recommend this guide and tour.
My wife and I spent today (Aug 3, 2024) with Wilbert B on the “Giethoorn and Hanseatic medieval city of Deventer tour”. It was great! And a big part of that was because Wilbert is terrific. He confirmed the pick up location and time a couple of days beforehand via What’sApp, was punctual, is super nice and hospitable, speaks excellent English, knows the history of his country and our specific destinations, and is a very good driver. Just an excellent guide all around. Wilbert picked us up at our Amsterdam hotel at 9 AM and drove us 1.5 hours to Giethoorn where he took us on a private 1 hour small boat ride through the picturesque canals. Loved it! Then he drove us to Deventer for a wonderful tour of this very quaint, charming and historic city. He really brought the city to life. We are so glad we chose this tour and had Wilbert as our guide.
Wilbert offered a unique tour from Amsterdam to Devanter, a medieval town. We drove through a reclaimed area, now a national park where he described the process of reclamation and the need. We then stopped at an old town founded to dig peat and now is restored and is a local vacation spot where you need a boat to get around. He rented a boat and we explored the town in a very interesting way. On to Devanter and Wilbert displayed a thorough knowledge of the history and architecture. Highly recommend.

Our Giethoorn and Deventer tour with Wilbert was phenomenal! Wilbert was very easy to communicate with in advance and customized everything to our preferences as we went throughout the day. He was an excellent driver (both car and boat!), and has the type of personality that you immediately feel comfortable around. We felt the tour price was very fair given all we saw and how personalized it was. Don't hesitate to book with Wilbert - he's a pro and a delight!
Our third tour with Wilbert and he surpassed all of our expectations! We spent a good portion of the day in Geithoorn both cruising through canals or walking beside them. What a glorious village! No cars! Just quaint homes, a few restaurants and shops, but mostly hanging out with nature. So far, the highlight of our adventures in The Netherlands. Wilbert also took us to the oldest planetarium in the world! What a grand surprise. I wish Wilbert could follow us to each country we visit. He is outstanding !
