Hi my name is Elke. As your personal driver and tour guide I offer unique excursions to the Dutch country side. All my excursions are carefully designed to provide the most authentic and genuine experience of the Dutch landscape as possible. I have been a citizen of Amsterdam for 20 years now and have always been exploring its inner and outer surroundings, on foot, by bike and by car. I have extensive knowledge of the many small back roads and villages. Often inaccessible by big touring cars and therefor still unknown to mass tourism and exploitation. My focus is on providing exclusive , off the beaten path, excursions featuring everything that is so characteristic for the Dutch landscape like polders, windmills, low horizons and big skies. Overview of your Amsterdam tour
Do you have Dutch ancestors and would you like to learn more about your heritage? I offer a special tailor-made excursion based on information you provide regarding your Dutch forefathers. I will plan a trip to their birthplaces or other significant locations and combine it with landmarks typical of that specific region. I will conduct research into your lineage using various available online regional and historical databases. I use this research to create a basic picture of your ancestors from Holland. To find out what their lives might have looked like and to look for any traces that might still be visible in modern day Holland. Research for this tour takes a lot of time and therefor the tour needs to be booked well ahead of time. I did a genealogical tour with Elke in November, 2024, along with my 2 brothers. Our family has a bit of a disconnected origin, while we were all born in Canada and share the same Dutch father, my brothers were raised in the Netherlands and I, in Canada. Elke gave me the gift of a lifetime by providing a wonderful day of learning more about our father’s life growing up. With her in depth research, she was able to provide the 3 of us with facts and information to help us better understand our father and how that formed the man he became. She included loads of information, along with stops at numerous locations that were relevant and really helped create a picture. I highly recommend Elke’s tour. Elke picked us up at our hotel and chauffeured us into the Frisian countryside and our family’s past. We were escorted through ancestral villages, homes, places of worship and work. We could walk their streets, sit in their pews and pubs. In our case the current homeowner generously invited us to tour the very rooms they had once lived in and peer out the very windows through which they would have viewed their world. And no guesswork was required here. Elke had done the research provided the documents. The names on a page now have faces and more personality than we could have imagined. Your Amsterdam tour itinerary
-After the booking you will sent me the information you have on your Dutch ancestor. Like a name, year of birth, spouse name, place of birth. If you don't have the exact information I might be able to find the person using whatever information you do have. -I will then conduct research. Using databases to find wedding, birth and death certificates, census records, passenger lists, church ledgers and so on. -With the information I gather I will make a special, tailor made tour just for you to experciense some of your own personal heritage in the Netherlands. Maybe I can find a church visited by your ancestors, a townhall where they wedd, you might walk the same cobbled streets as they did!.

Other: Genealogy is a big hobby of mine and I love creating these tours. The amount of research that goes into them is more than I could ever charge. Its days and weeks rather than hours.
The tour price does include all however. Both the full day tour as well as time spent on research.
