If you want to truly understand Amsterdam and the Netherlands in a short time, I will make sure you get much more out of your visit than you would on your own. My tours are designed to help you see the city in context, understand the stories behind what you see, and enjoy a relaxed, personal experience without stress or rushing. What guests value most is that they leave with a clear understanding of Amsterdam. Not just the highlights, but how the city works and why it developed the way it did. I connect art, history, and daily life in a way that is easy to follow and enjoyable. Every tour is adapted to your interests, pace, and level of knowledge. My main areas of expertise are Dutch art at the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, the history of Amsterdam, Jewish history in the Netherlands (with broader context beyond only the well-known stories), and Dutch water management. I also enjoy showing how modern Amsterdam functions today, from neighbourhoods and architecture to everyday local life. I now focus fully on half-day private walking tours in Amsterdam and Haarlem. These tours are flexible and personal. We walk where it makes sense, but we can also use public transport or arrange a private transfer when needed. For example, this works well for a visit between Amsterdam and Haarlem. The pace is always adjusted to your comfort and interests. I have worked in tourism for more than 20 years. Since 2015 I guide guests in Amsterdam and the Netherlands through ToursByLocals. I also hold several degrees in tourism and I am one of the few officially certified Dutch “National Guide” graduates with distinction. Before guiding, I worked as a travel organiser for Dutch travellers going abroad. This helps me understand exactly what international guests expect: clear communication, good organisation, and a smooth, well-planned day. My main motto is simple: our day together must be informative and fun. I only offer tours I am genuinely passionate about, because that is what brings the city to life for my guests. I enjoy working with curious travellers who want more than sightseeing. If you want to understand Amsterdam and the Netherlands in a meaningful way, I will make sure your time here is both enjoyable and valuable. I look forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam or Haarlem.

Amsterdam can feel overwhelming at first, with its canals, stories, and layers of history packed into a small city. On this private walking tour, I help you make sense of it all in a relaxed way so the city starts to feel familiar, logical, and alive. As a certified and licensed guide, I walk with you at an easy pace, sharing stories that connect past and present. We explore canals, historic streets, and quiet corners while I explain how the city developed and how it works today. I’m especially interested in history, WWII, art, and the city’s geography, which naturally comes through during the walk. I don’t focus on souvenir shops, chocolate shops, or TikTok lines, but I can tell you how old buildings are, which streets were canals or dikes, and where figures like Rembrandt and Van Gogh lived and worked. I also enjoy questions — the more curious you are, the better the experience. A flexible, personal introduction to Amsterdam for first-time and returning visitors.
The exact itinerary depends on your starting point, ending location, and walking pace. I always tailor the route to your interests, but I typically include a selection of the following areas: * Historic city centre of Amsterdam * Dam Square, the heart of the city * Amstel River and its bridges * Rembrandt Square * Waterlooplein and its historic surroundings * Nieuwmarkt and the old city gates area The Jewish Quarter and its historical sites can also be included, although this requires a bit more walking depending on time and route. Please note that guiding inside the Red Light District is not permitted. However, I can walk around the area and share historical and cultural context so you understand its role in the city. The tour always ends at a convenient location for you, such as your hotel or another preferred drop-off point. Feel free to contact me to design a personalised route.

This is a private walking tour at your own pace, so we take our time and adjust the route and stops based on how you feel along the way. There is no rush, and plenty of space to pause, look around, and ask questions. For guests with mobility limitations or who prefer not to walk the full distance, transportation such as public transport or private transfers can be added to make the experience more comfortable and accessible.
