Welcome to Mexico, a country I fell in love with since my first stay as an anthropologist in 2000, staying several months in an indigenous farming community. Working as a part time architecture guide in Belgium since 2006, I decided to move to Mexico in 2008 to show all the cultural and natural wonders of this incredible country to other people. Let me guide you through the real stories behind Mexico City and elsewhere: its architecture (from aztec ruins and the cosmology they express, over colonial palaces of wealthy Spanish families, to the deeply emotional and vibrant spaces and plays of light and rythm by contemporary Mexican pioneers) , the Mesoamerican sites in the surroundings, the stunning landscapes but also its people and folklore of today. Mexico City and its surroundings offer an amazing crossing point between european culture and history, prehispanic traditions and dynamic modernity. Complex and colorful, dynamic and generous, Mexico leaves nobody indifferent; here, you have fun while learning lots of things. Did I forget the incredible Mexican food? I have a special tasting and market tour, and good food is always part of my tours. It is my pleasure to adapt tours to all kind of needs and interests. Forget about fixed schedules, meal times, generic visits without attention to the details, forced shop visits. . . with me as a private guide you can decide it ALL by yourself. Moreover, my long experience with house owners, archeologists, craftspeople, cooking ladies, can give you a peek behind the scenes and show you the wonders and achievements of the life and work of real Mexicans! I have guided city walking tours, bike tours, as well as excursions of several days to the surrounding states, for those who want to go beyond the dynamic and endless activities within the city. Some options are Queretaro/SanMigueldeAllende/Guanajuato, farming villages and nature in the Huasteca, the region of Oaxaca, my personal favourite with never-ending arts&crafts, festivities, petrified waterfalls, markets and amazing food. Or go native in Cuetzalan, and indigenous town in the dramatic lush Sierra Norte mountains of Puebla state, or to the Purhepecha communities of Michoacan, with their Day of the Dead and crafts traditions. Combine several UNESCO Heritage sites like the ruins of El Tajín and Xochicalco, colonial towns and monasteries in a 3,4or5 days Central Mexico trip. I'm a convinced promotor of the beneftis of community tourism: while learning from the local cultures and enjoying their friendly hospitality, we explore their surroundings and support the protection of their environment and livelihoods. Ever imagined foraging wild foods and preparing them with the knowledge of the local cooks, or joining the traditional mezcal producers during destillation? It's all possible. You want more? Consider a private roundtrip of one, two or three weeks to other areas of Mexico: the colonial cities and traditional cultures of the western Bajío; the Gulf Coast with great food, archeology and natural wonders; the stunningly green and indigenous Chiapas; or the maya wonders of Yucatan. You can rely upon my knowledge of the Mexican road system and proper insurance, crucial for a safe trip when going by car (of course, you can also opt for hiking, biking, horseback or even rafting!). Please contact me if you want to design a longer roundtrip across the country together with me. Do you want you to feel like you have lived in Mexico for years, while being surprised at any minute? With me as a tour guide, you will experience Mexico in a unique way like you wouldn't have imagined! Just let me know your fields of interest and your passions, and I'll design a customized program that will leave you in awe! Availability and very specific interests are (almost) never a problem, because I work together with a small group of thrusted, reliable, equally high-quality mexican guides with a wide range of experiences, that can complement or take over if necessary. Degrees as an engineer, anthropologist, teacher and tourist guide by the Flemish community, Belgium (1998-2006) Two years of cooking and chocolate course by the Flemish community, Belgium (2005-2006) Licensed as a tourist guide by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism (2009) Course on Cultural Tourism - Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH - National School of Anthropology and History, Mexico City) Guiding for several major and specialty travel agencies such as Thomas Cook, Kuoni, OAD, SNV, Joker, Fox, Proximo Travel, Hola Pola, Mexique Découverte, Mexikoo, Baska Turlu Macera, De Blauwe Vogel, SKR, Wikinger, Native Trails, Seven Tours, Carribean Travel, and many more.

Overview of your Mexico City tour

Feeling the wind in your hairs while seeing the best of Mexico City! Biking in MC has become fashionable, and fun. On Sundays, various streets are reserved for bikers only; the government has installed an ambitious eco-bike sharing program, new cycle paths. . . Mexico City traffic has a bad reputation, but drivers are gradually adapting themselves to the cyclists. So why not try this ecological transport to discover in a few hours with me the best this city has to offer? The Chapultepec park is a highlight, peaceful and lively with visitors and attractions. I will then take you to visit the architectural art-déco highlights of hip and green Condesa and Roma, Alameda park and back via Paseo de la Reforma. This tour is a great complement to a walking tour downtown. I can also focus on culinary hotspots, if you're a real foodie! I haven't convinced you yet? Check out internet videos of cycling in Mexico City: both stylish and enjoyable. Ebikes at an extra cost when available.

As he was unavailable he organized us an (german speaking) alternative guide. Tour itself was good but cycling was 'Mexican style'. No hand signs and he was not really aware if the group was following. The food stop was excellent! The foldable bikes need a bit more love and are not suitable for tall and heavy people.

Jonas provided a great bike tour around the city. We would have missed great sites at Chapultepec and even our hotel neighborhood without him. He gave us interesting commentary on the architecture and how the neighborhoods evolved. Mexican streets are difficult to navigate so I would not do it alone (even though we are used to biking in Philadelphia!). We made a great stop for some awesome tacos. We highly recommend Jonás for a tour on bike.

Jonas is a great, knowledgeable passionate guide. He LOVES Mexico City and it shows. He personalized our tour to things that interest us and expanded what we saw and what we learned beyond our expectations. He is fun and extremely easy-going. We wouldn't hesitate to tour with him again, different topics, different locations... he made us feel welcome and his love of the city rubbed off.

This was a super fun way to see the city. Jonas knows a ton including fun detours. If you like biking you should put this on your short list of activities, with Jonas as your guide. The folding bikes he provided are very easy to ride (easier than a real bike or mtn bike)

Very enjoyable 1:1 cycling introduction to Mexico City on an electric bike which was a new experience! Jonas combined historical info with modern architecture and an intro to mouth watering sweet tamale and coffee in a small cafe run by indigenous people. The cycling was a mix of cycle lanes and roads with some weaving around traffic so this is a trip for confident cyclists, which give a good feel for the city and its varied architecture. Thanks Jonas, definitely worth repeating!

Jonas is a much in-demand tour guide and I feel fortunate that we were able to book him for our bike tour of Mexico City. It was a wild, crazy day as we wove in and out of Mexico City's crazy traffic. Jonas was very interested to know of our interests so as to tailor the bike excursion to our tastes. This led to a very challenging but rewarding ride to Chapultepec Park and the Diego Rivera waterworks - a highlight of our ride. While we ended the ride pretty exhausted (with sore seats!), we saw a lot!

Your Mexico City tour itinerary

• Chapultepec park, with its lake, the baths of Moctezuma (the last Aztec emperor), several monuments and the History Museum (Chapultepec Castle). • Famous art-déco and modernist buildings of Condesa, its beautiful Mexico Park and hip bars • Roma, a bohemian neighborhood with art galleries popping up every month. • Ciudadela crafts market, Alameda Park and surroundings (Fine Arts Palace, Juarez complex). • On our way back, we spot some of Mexico City's most famous monuments, such as the Monument for the Revolution and the Angel of Independence. Here you find an example itinerary with more details on the visited points: www. routeyou. com/route/view/247587/cycle-route-mexico-city-bike-tour . We can adapt the route to your interests. We can also focus on food stalls and markets, as biking makes you hungry (for some example tastings, see my Tasting Tour)! In case we can use bikes from your hotel or from a free rental station, you get a light lunch on the way for free!
