Explore Guanajuato your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Guanajuato tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Guanajuato for every interest, including:

History tours: Stand at the Alhóndiga de Granaditas where the independence struggle turned, walk the narrow Callejón del Beso, and drive the old underground tunnels that shaped the city. Head up to Mina de La Valenciana and the pink-stone Templo de San Cayetano to hear mining tales.

Art and Culture tours: Visit the Diego Rivera House Museum and peek into Teatro Juárez, then join a nighttime callejoneada with an estudiantina for songs and legends.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike in the Sierra de Santa Rosa to the Cerro de la Bufa lookout for wide views, then unwind by the water at Presa de la Olla or explore trails around Presa de la Esperanza.

The historic core is walkable but steep, with many stairs and alleys, and public transit is limited for outlying mines and trailheads. Ask your guide about tours with private transportation to handle hills and countryside stops comfortably.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Guanajuato inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Guanajuato

If you want more than alleys and plazas, add nearby cities and countryside to your plan, because day trips from Guanajuato make it easy to switch between art, history, nature, and good food without long drives.

San Miguel de Allende: For art and architecture fans, this colonial town delivers studio visits, courtyard galleries, and the famous pink Parroquia on the main square, and your tour can lean into hands-on workshops or a relaxed spin through local markets and rooftops.

Dolores Hidalgo: If Mexico’s independence story interests you, stop at the church where the movement began, browse talavera pottery studios, and sample odd-and-fun ice cream flavours on the plaza, with your tour pacing the history and craft time so you’re never rushed.

Mineral de Pozos: Photographers and explorers get silent mine ruins, agave fields, and wind-worn walls you can wander around, and your tour can pair short walks with visits to artisan instrument makers for a mix of landscapes and local craft.

León: Shoppers come for leather goods and outlets, while the city also offers lively plazas and the Templo Expiatorio in the evening, and your tour can focus on quality shops and neighbourhood eats instead of generic malls.

Sierra de Santa Rosa: If you want fresh air close to town, this highland area has pine forests, canyon viewpoints, and small villages, and your tour can be a light hike with scenic stops rather than a full-on trek, making nature easy.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Guanajuato most travellers miss.
