Explore Acapulco your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Acapulco tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Acapulco for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Glide by boat through the mangroves of Laguna de Tres Palos or Coyuca to spot herons, kingfishers, and crocs, then release turtle hatchlings at Playa Larga or snorkel around Isla La Roqueta, with whale sightings possible in season.

Off The Beaten Path tours: Hike up to the Palma Sola petroglyphs above the bay, see Diego Rivera’s mosaics at Casa de los Vientos in La Pinzona, and sit down to pescado a la talla in the village of Barra Vieja away from the hotel strip.

History tours: Explore the star-shaped Fuerte de San Diego and its Manila galleon exhibits, walk the zócalo to the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, and watch La Quebrada divers with context on mid‑century legends.

Distances are long and hills are steep, and while buses and colectivos run the Costera they can be crowded, so it is easier to book a chauffeured tour or ask your local guide for private transportation to reach lagoons, cliffs, and hill sites.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Acapulco inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Acapulco

From Acapulco, add easy day trips to lagoons, beaches, ruins, and a silver town to see more of Guerrero without packing up. These day trips and private tours keep travel simple while giving you very different settings in a single day.

- Pie de la Cuesta and Coyuca Lagoon, about 12 km northwest: a narrow sandbar with ocean on one side and a calm lagoon on the other. Your tour can include a small-boat ride through mangroves to spot egrets and pelicans, a fresh seafood lunch in a simple palapa, and sunset views that photographers love.

- Barra Vieja, roughly 30 km southeast: long, open beach with steady waves and local grills serving pescado a la talla. Ride a horse on the sand, taste coconut-based dishes, and, in season, visit a community turtle camp to learn about hatchling releases.

- Laguna de Tres Palos, about 25 km east: wide, shallow lagoon lined with lilies and birdlife. Cruise quiet channels, try the traditional clay mask made from local mud, and watch for herons and kingfishers while keeping the city well out of sight.

- Tehuacalco Archaeological Zone, around 70 km inland: hilltop ruins tied to the Yope culture with a ball court and broad valley views. Good for history fans who want context without crowds; pair it with a pozole stop for a very Guerrero-style lunch.

- Taxco de Alarcón, about 245 km north, a longer day that rewards an early start: steep cobblestone lanes, silver workshops, and the ornate Santa Prisca Church. Visit a working taller to see silver pieces made, browse small plazas, and ride up for a full view of the town in the hills.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Acapulco most travellers miss.
