Hi, I’m Erika and I'd love to introduce you to the history of my country. I’m a Certified Tourist Guide by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism; so I’d be glad to guide you through a tour in Mexico City. I’d love to accompany you visiting different places in this big city, such as the historical Downtown area, plus the most important museums or archaeological sites, in order to assist you with getting acquainted and understanding the ancient and modern Mexican history. For example, helping you gain notions about the different cultures that lived here a long time ago, which left a tangible and intangible heritage, such as pyramids and other forms of architecture, art, music, food, and so on. I’m really passionate about Mexican history. Since I was a little girl, I had a great interest about cultures from all across the world. Reading a few books, I quickly realized that Mexico was rich in culture and heritage. This ignited a spark in me, and I decided to study archaeology, as well as art history some time later, and further along, also museology, all in renowned Universities in Mexico. Learning more became a necessity for me, not only to understand the history of my country, but also to understand my own history, to understand myself. So, I’m really eager to share said acquired knowledge with you. As an Archaeologist, I have worked in government institutions for almost 20 years, and I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating in different archaeological projects with Mexican and foreign specialists, making explorations in important cities in Mexico studying different aspects, such as cave art, rock art & iconography. I have been a Tour Guide for half a decade too, and I’ve had beautiful experiences with people from different countries. I even established a beautiful friendship with some of them so far! I decided to impart Mexican culture and information because it’s very important for me to contribute to children’s education in Mexico, as well as to ensure foreign visitors acquire a different perception about Mexicans and our country. I’m a friendly person, and I truly enjoy meeting people and talking about our personal experiences. I would certainly like to hear about yours as well! Therefore, I want to invite you to engage in a different experience with me: learning while also having some fun. P.S. If you have a request for a special tour, just let me know!

On this tour, we are going to visit some beautiful buildings with murals. In the 1920’s, after the Mexican Revolution, the Government sponsored a muralism project to create a national identity and to harness education for all Mexican people. This project was headed by the most important artists of XXth century Mexico, which resulted in beautiful masterpieces painted in different buildings throughout the country, and even abroad. Using the Fresco technique, and being part of different avant-gardes styles, each artist approached the murals from different social and political themes, exalting the traditions and beliefs of this multicultural society. So, artists such as Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and many others, contributed to the reconstruction and revalorization of Mexican history.
·After meeting in the Constitution Square, we'll head to the Ministry of Education, where we'll appreciate beautiful murals painted by Diego Rivera, distributed on the walls of three levels of this important government building. -Then we'll walk towards the Old School of San Ildefonso and appreciate murals painted by José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera, Jean Charlot, Fernando Leal, and others, which decorate this old building. -Next, we are going to walk on Francisco I. Madero Street to later reach the Fine Arts Palace, where on its second floor, we'll see murals painted not only by the three great Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco & David Alfaro Siqueiros, but also those painted by Rufino Tamayo, Jorge Gonzalez Camarena, and others, from 1928 to 1963. -Finally, we are going to walk through Alameda Central Park up to the Diego Rivera Mural Museum, where we'll see the Dream of a Sunday Afternoon mural (Sueño de una Tarde Dominical en la Alameda Central) by Diego Rivera in 1947.
