Gorgeous Xochimilco and UNAM University

If there is a place that all Mexicans have visited and celebrated some special event or party, that is the beautiful floating gardens of Xochimilco, in the south of the city. We will make a stop at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Latin America's largest university, declared a World Heritage Site in 2007. I will show you why the university campus constitutes a unique example of 20th Century modernism integrating urbanism, architecture, engineering, landscape design, and fine arts with references to local traditions of Mexico's Pre-Hispanic past. Afterwards, we will visit the floating gardens of Xochimilco that were once connected by a causeway to the capital of Tenochtitlan and where the Aztecs cultivated much of their food, which could be considered the origin of hydroponics. We will navigate the canals on board of a typical 'trajinera', a little boat decorated with flowers, and I will tell you the story about how Aztec life was before the arrival of Cortes, the Spanish conquistador.
