This tour is a must-see when visiting Mexico City. The Basilica of Guadalupe is the most important religious center in Mexico, with 20 million visitors annually. You don't need to be Catholic or religious to appreciate the historical architecture, (which includes remnants from the 16th century, buildings from the 17th-18th centuries, and from the 20th and 21st centuries) and the beautiful gardens. Together we'll discuss the Basilica's significance, the effects the 2017 earthquake had on it, and I'll share my paternal ancestor's role in recognizing the Guadalupe miracle in 1666. We'll also talk about the challenges faced by Catholicism during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Besides this, we'll address the 1531 miracle of the Virgin of Guadalupe's appearance to Juan Diego. But beyond this, we'll visit other important monuments and enjoy the views from Tepeyac Hill. We will cover the Tepeyac Garden, "La Ofrenda" fountain, the Temple of the Little Well, and the Ancient Parish of the Indians.
·We will start our tour by visiting the Old Basilica (now known as "Expiatory Temple of Christ the King".) ·We will continue by heading towards the foothills of Tepeyac Hill. ·Later, we will visit the Monument to Christ the King. ·Afterwards, we'll reach the Temple of the Hill (Templo del Cerrito). On a clear day, this platform offers a magnificent viewpoint from which you can see the nearby volcanoes! ·Later, we'll see the beautiful Tepeyac Garden and the sculptural ensemble "La Ofrenda." ·What's next will be the Temple of the Little Well (Templo del Pocito) ·Next, we'll get to the Ancient Parish of the Indians. ·At last, we'll approach the New Basilica to see the original image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. ·We will finish our tour at the same place where we started from.
