Greetings from Tokyo! With over 20 years of guiding experience in Japan, 15 in Tokyo, I am extremely excited at the prospect of showing you my back yard. This place is awesome! There was once a time when I was seeing this great metropolis for the first time. I recall how in awe I was of not just the traditional, cultural and historical sides to Tokyo, but the the everyday aspects of life here, too. As a longterm expat, I therefore share unique perspectives of Tokyo, mixing anecdote along with historical and cultural information. I'm sure that I know what will impress you! On my tours, we will be sure to hit highlights of the city - day or night, immersing ourselves in its historic, modern and culinary charms. I am, of course, happy to cater for specific requests - please feel free to let me know, so that I can create the best day/s possible for you during your time in Tokyo! Wherever you are from, please come and share a little about yourselves as I share a LOT about one of the greatest cities on earth! I look forward to hearing from you.

Japan's amazing capital has it all! This full-day tour will introduce you to a selection of Tokyo districts which offer fascinating glimpses into Japanese history, modern culture, sacred places of worship, cutting-edge architecture, green spaces and neon drenched shopping meccas. My priority today is quality over quantity, so I propose the following 5 areas to focus on, to give you a balanced introduction to this metropolis: Hamarikyu Garden, Ueno, Asakusa, Harajuku and Shibuya. This is a walking tour which also takes advantage of Tokyo's astoundingly efficient railway network. So get ready to navigate the city as the locals do! Of course, if you have ideas of your own, I am more than happy to customise the day for you!
- Meet up as requested. - Hamarikyu: a Japanese strolling garden, site of a villa of former Shoguns’. We can stop at a teahouse here. - Walk 15 mins through the Shiodome high-rise district to marvel at the Ni-Tele Clock, then train to Ueno. - Ueno: tour Ameyokocho locals' market under the railway tracks. - Optional lunch then a 5-minute Subway ride. - Asakusa: explore the oldest temple in Tokyo, Sensoji, and its traditional shopping streets. - Train to Harajuku, in west Tokyo. - Harajuku: wander sacred Meiji Shrine, then a walk through the funky youth fashion street of Takeshita Dori. - Train to Shibuya. - Shibuya: experience the world-famous crossing, giant TV screens and neon. -Tour ends at Shibuya station. I’ll help you return by trains or taxi. NB. For efficiency, the order of activities above may change, depending on our meeting location at the start of the day. For your convenience, I can lend travel cards to be used for your tour.
