My favorite hobby is appreciating different glasses of wines from different wine regions of the world. In fact, I loved wine so much, I studied wine when I was stationed at New York, and finally became the wine sommelier. Now, I also teach wine at least once a month in Tokyo and have over 100 registered students. My main area for guiding is Tokyo. Tokyo offers such a wide variety of attractions and beautiful places such as historical and cultural places, museums, modern buildings, and fine restaurants. Kamakura is a coastal town located about an hour toward the south of Tokyo. In medieval times, the town became a political center of Japan when Minamoto Yoritomo chose the town as the place for his military government in the late 12th century. Today Kamakura is a small city and a very popular tourist destination. Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments and is a great place to get your taste of ancient Japan. Engakuji is one of the most famous Zen temples in Kamakura. Hasedera is situated in the suburb of Kamakura and is famous for 11 faced wooden statue which is largest of those kinds, and Kotokuin temple is super famous with Great Buddha with 15 meters high next largest to Great Buddha of Nara in addition to Tsurugaoka-Hachimangu Shrine situated in the center of the Kamakura city. We will also visit Komachi Dori a small but very busy and attractive street with a lot of restaurants and sweets and many kinds of souvenirs. Kamakura never bores you. Join me exploring Kamakura!
We will take a JR train and stop at Kita Kamakura visiting Engakuji-Temple. Engakuji Temple was founded in 1282 to console the souls of the fallen Japanese and Mongolian soldiers following the second invasion attempt by the Mongols. We will continue with JR to the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. Tsugugaoka Hachimangu is Kamakura's most important shrine. It was founded in 1063. We will then continue to visit the busy shopping street called Komachi Dori. One pocket of the city you can't go past is Komachi Dori. We will take a local train, Enoden from to Hase, where we are visiting Hase-Temple. Hase temple is famous for its eleven-headed statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. Measuring 9. 18 meters tall, it is regarded as one of the largest wooden sculpture in Japan. The last stop will be Great Budda of Kamamura. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha, which stands on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple. With the height of 11. 4 meters it is the second tallest bronze Buddha statue in Japan.
