But first, please get to know me. I was born and raised in Tokyo. With the exception of a time when I attended a public high school in the U. S. as an exchange student and a job transfer, I have spent most of my life in Tokyo. Tokyo is my hometown and I LOVE Tokyo. I have worked in a variety of industries, including banking, publishing, education, and travel. I believe this broad experience gives me a great advantage in my work as a guide. In particular, I have specialized in introducing Japanese and foreign arts and culture as an editor for over 20 years. In addition, when I traveled around the world as a tour conductor, I was often impressed by competent local guides who had not only knowledge but also hospitality and a sense of humor. This tour takes you to two Tokyo's major historical highlights. Both are famous landmarks, yet both are filled with serenity. Enjoy a historical and cultural experience in this oasis left in the heart of Tokyo. The Imperial Palace is the highlight of Tokyo sightseeing. Many group sightseeing tours do not spend much time at the Imperial Palace because you cannot go inside the Palace. But there is one place where you can enter. That is the East Gardens attached to the Imperial Palace. It's a special place that the Imperial Family opened to the public. The East Gardens also offer an opportunity to learn about the history of the Edo period, from 400 to 150 years ago. In addition to the ruins of Edo Castle, the East Gardens have a beautiful Japanese landscape garden and seasonal flowers. Meiji Shrine is undoubtedly the most beloved shrine of the Japanese people. As you stroll through the deep forest of the shrine, you will experience its history and discover the secret of why this place is so dear to us all.
Much better than visiting on your own, learning about the history and significance of the Edo-period remains in the Imperial Garden with a knowledgeable guide like Rie was very worthwhile. Her insight into the significance of the Meiji Shrine was also invaluable. Highly recommended.
We booked this tour because our friends traveling with us had never been to Tokyo before. Rei was outstanding in every way. She was prompt and clear about where to meet. She covered the full itinerary without rush and made us feel very welcome. She was well prepared with supplemental materials to help us visualize what we were seeing as observed in different time periods. Rei presented the historical and cultural details in such a way as to make us feel we were living the experience. She is very knowledgeable and speaks English very well. She answered all of our questions with ease. Having lived in Tokyo for a few years ourselves, Rei's commentary was meaningful and insightful and helped bring the history and culture to life. This tour is well worth the time.
Beautiful tour! Learned more about the history during the walk in the garden and to the temple. Some late adjustment was no problem for Rie and we were so grateful. Good English speaking!
Rie did a wonderful job. She was able to customize a tour for us. Her English is very good. She was prompt, well organized and came prepared with materials and a route that helped us understand the Palace grounds and history of the area. She is knowledgeable about the history of the Imperial Palace and surrounding area. She was very conscious of our comfort and we covered the grounds at a good pace. I highly recommend her and this tour!!
An excellent day with Rie visiting the Imperial palace and gardens. She was so knowledgeable and helpful. She was also flexible to work with us in changes in the itinerary. We didn't have the best weather (out of her control obviously) but her English was excellent and she took us to a wonderful lunch spot near the palace. She was great in helping us order too! Highly recommended!
