Hello, my fellow traveler! My name is Andris I've been a licensed, local tour guide since 2017 in Hungary and in the largest European Synagogue. I worked in Budapest's tourism for the last 15 years, because I realized very early on that I truly love this city and since I am an eager traveler as well, I wanted to make sure that the visitors have an unforgettable time in my favorite town. I speak English, German, and Dutch fluently and I can teach you one of the most difficult languages in the world, Hungarian. I'm a big history enthusiast, but instead of the names and numbers I am curious about how the real people lived here in the last 2000 years and that is what I talk about on my tours. My biggest passions are eating and drinking without a question so you can't leave my tours without trying some local snack or wine. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON MY TOURS: I like to keep things light and fun and so prepare yourself for some ironic humor and plenty of dad jokes. It is what it is. . . I just can't help myself :) While we discover Budapest together we won't only talk about architecture and history, we can also discuss the issues of present everyday life of the locals and anything else that you would like to know. There are no bad questions! I think the best way to discover Budapest is by walking, so my tours are by default walking tours with some public transportation. That is how you can feel the general atmosphere of the neighborhoods and that is the easiest way to run into some hidden gems, like flea markets and design shops, but if you have just a short time here, or you just want to discover the important attractions in the most comfortable and efficient way, I totally understand that. In that case, I can always arrange private transportation for you, just let me know. I also love a good challenge, so if you have a special interest or you want to see some special sights besides the most famous ones, feel free to contact me and I'll create a fully customized experience just for your needs. WHY BUDAPEST: The biggest advantage of this city in my opinion is its eclecticism. You can see ancient Roman ruins from 2000 years ago, walk amongst beautiful classicist and art nouveau buildings on cobblestone streets from the 19th century, and you might run into a typical brutalist "neo-ugly" communist building on the next corner. The other charming attribute of Budapest is that it has been a student city since the 17th century so it has a vibrant culture and nightlife, and if nothing interests you above all these, you can still spend a very fun couple of days here just eating the best Hungarian dishes and drinking some excellent local wines with some impossible names :) I would love to create a special experience for you in Budapest. Join me and let's discover my favorite town together! Budapest’s Pest side looks elegant on the surface—until you learn what the 20th century left behind in its streets. On this private walk, we explore the Jewish District and the Old Town, where grand facades sit next to powerful places of memory. We visit Budapest’s three landmark synagogues and discuss Jewish life before WWII, the changes that occurred during the war, and how the neighborhood has transformed into today’s vibrant cultural scene. Then we step into downtown Pest to see how the city rebuilt, adapted, and lived through dictatorship. At Liberty Square, we unpack the competing memorials and the politics of remembrance—then finish by the Danube with one of Budapest’s most moving monuments. Along the way, we stop for a drink in an emblematic 1970s-style bar, where we can experience a taste of everyday life under communism. Thoughtful, story-driven, and unforgettable.
