Hello, I am Niki, a licensed Hungarian tour guide. Budapest, the heart-stealing capital of Hungary is my place of birth. I grew up and lived all my life here, except a school year in Coventry, U. K. where I improved my English. As a tour guide, I have 20 years of professional experience with travellers mainly from the U. S. A. , Canada, the U. K. , the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, India, Korea, and I hope YOU are going to be next! I have a strong passion for history, archeology and fine arts. I believe in lifelong learning to secure that the information I share with my travelers is always accurate and up-to-date. I always design my tours to be informative as well as inspiring and entertaining. My motto is: feel good and get more than expected! Come with me and travel like everyday residents of Budapest on the old underground or the legendary yellow trams. Let's discover the main tourist attractions and some hidden treasures of the city that only locals know. Listen to personal stories of life in a Central European capital which had long been hidden behind the iron curtain and is free now. If you stay longer, let's visit some of my favorite places outside Budapest. Lovely old palaces, charming little towns, picturesque landscape and a lot of interesting stories are waiting for you. All my tours are fully customized to your interests and flexible on the day(s) to take account of any special events taking place or the weather. With me, as your own private guide, you will have the time to fully experience everything, stopping to take the perfect photo or popping into one of the historical cafés, enjoy local delicacies or the shops we pass. Be my guest! Follow me to hear stories from one of the darker periods of Hungarian history and discover the heroes and villains of World War II, Nazism, the Cold War occupation and the entire Communist era, until Hungary's peaceful transition to parliamentary democracy in the late 1980s. My grandfather fought on the Eastern Front in World War II. My dad lived through the toughest years of Soviet oppression in the 1950s and was one of the teenager freedom fighters during the 1956 anti-Communist uprising. I myself grew up in an era when every aspect of people's life was dominated by Soviet-dictated rules. Believe me, I have a lot of personal stories to share with you during this tour. This tour is recommended to travellers over 15.

I highly recommend Niki. Our tour of Budapest was wonderful. Niki's knowledge and personal observations made our experience very memorable.
We learned so much. Nicollet tells you the history in a way that really helps you understand AND remember. Facts interwoven with stories, told passionately. This was a great tour. In particular we learned more about the occupation by Russia and Hungary’s communist era. And we used lots of public transportation to cover a lot of area. Highly recommended.
Niki’s communist and WW2 tour was so educational. Her personal experiences really added so much to the experience. Niki is very knowledgeable and passionate about her city. We highly recommend her!
This is a fabulous tour and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Budapest. As a westerner, it was illuminating to hear Niki’s historical and personal accounts of communism and the difficulties faced living under that system. Niki was very organized for the tour. She had train tickets for us, and we were able to learn how to navigate the Budapest public transportation system as we visited different sites. Her English was fluent and easy to understand. When we mentioned we had already visited one area that she was taking us, she modified the tour to accommodate that. This is not an easy tour. The material covered can be heart breaking and frightening. Niki handled it intelligently, honestly, and compassionately.
Anyone visiting Budapest who grew up in the free world should definitely take this tour. Niki was outstanding in describing Hungary’s real role in WWII and the personal struggles of her parents and grandparents on this short but comprehensive walking tour. Thank you Niki!
