Hello, I am Niki, a licensed Hungarian tour guide. Budapest, the heart-stealing capital of Hungary is my place of birth. I grew up and lived all my life here, except a school year in Coventry, U. Follow me to hear stories from one of the darker periods of Hungarian history and discover the heroes and villains of World War II, Nazism, the Cold War occupation and the entire Communist era, until Hungary's peaceful transition to parliamentary democracy in the late 1980s. My grandfather fought on the Eastern Front in World War II. My dad lived through the toughest years of Soviet oppression in the 1950s and was one of the teenager freedom fighters during the 1956 anti-Communist uprising. I myself grew up in an era when every aspect of people's life was dominated by Soviet-dictated rules. Believe me, I have a lot of personal stories to share with you during this tour. This tour is recommended to travellers over 15.
If you have a desire to know about Hungary's complicated political history, then Nikolett is the guide for you. She is so well versed and passionate about her country, and many of her stories come from her personal family experiences. Great tour and I highly recommend!
Niki provided personal stories and connected events to the environment around her. She had experience on both sides of the iron curtain so she could provide insight that others may not be aware of. Additionally she was well organized and came with images to provide better detail about some topics. She was expensive, but so far she has been the best tour guide I have come across in this part of the world (Balkans).
I'm an American with a German Mother. I know America and Germany's role in WWII. I took this tour because I honestly had no clue why Hungary was on the Axis side. Nikki explained all the back history that lead to WWII and Hungary's roll in WWII. It was very informative and I learned so much WWII history and how WWI and WWII shaped Hungary. She shared insights from her grandparents and parents. An incredible experience and learning opportunity.

We learned so much. Nicollet tells you the history in a way that really helps you understand AND remember. Facts interwoven with stories, told passionately. This was a great tour. In particular we learned more about the occupation by Russia and Hungary’s communist era. And we used lots of public transportation to cover a lot of area. Highly recommended.
