Overview of your Budapest tour:

Once one of the largest Jewish Communities of Europe, Budapest was home to more than 200000 Jews. Starting at the heart of the Jewish District, this comprehensive tour shows you all the iconic buildings of Jewish Budapest and teaches you about the incredibly rich history of the Hungarian Jews. You will not only hear stories about the past but I will share to you how the city has evolved to reflect today's changing culture. As we stroll down the streets you I will tell a lot of fascinating stories - some of them are my own family stories - and we will discuss contemporary political issues, as well. By the end of the 4 hours I hope you will be able to connect the dots between all things, Hungarian and Jewish. As licensed guide to the Great Synagogue I can skip the lines at the entrance and have no restrictions in guiding inside the building complex. Let's explore Jewish Budapest together! NOTE: If you would like to add private transportation to this tour please contact me for a tailor made proposal.

Your Budapest tour itinerary

Suggested itinerary: - skip the line at the entrance to the Dohany Street Great Synagogue - second largest of the world! - I will guide you inside the whole building complex: Synagogue, Museum, Cemetery, Temple of Heroes, Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Garden, Tree of Life. You will not only learn about history, but also hear my family's stories - Carl Lutz memorial - learn about the life of the former ghetto - take a walk in the small streets of the Jewish district, see the Mikvah from outside, walk through the Gozsdu Courtyards, the heart of this colourful area - visit the Kazinczy Street Orthodox Synagogue and learn about the 3 Hungarian Jewish factions - Neolog, Orthodox, Status Quo ante (Temporarily closed for restoration, currently only from outside!!!) - Rumbach Street Synagogue from outside - short subway ride to the Shoes by the Danube Memorial - a poignant reminder of the holocaust, a must-see in Budapest This tour is customizable to fit your preferences.
