Since moving to Edinburgh in 1988 from Germany, via South Africa and Switzerland, I am continually struck by the awesome beauty of this European Capital, by the visible history, the living culture and the juxtaposition of nature and city.

I have been guiding individuals and groups through Edinburgh, Scotland and the rest of the UK since 1994 and just love imparting knowledge, local anecdotes, introducing guests to the history and the daily life of this mesmerising country and city.

Edinburgh is sometimes seen as a dignified and beautiful old lady, but it is also like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, the double character created by its most famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson.

The New Town, so full of grand buildings, long vistas and public gardens is the nice Dr Jekyll; while the mediaeval Old Town with its countless narrow alleys (closes), high buildings and frankly gory past, is the wicked Mr Hyde.

Explore the Royal Mile and see highlights as well as gruesome balackspots. Promenade the New Town's broad streets, peeking beneath the genteel curtains at the secrets behind the rich facades. Find out how you can visit Canada (Nova Scotia) while not leaving Edinburgh. Discover why the World's End pub really is (for some at least) the end of the world. And all while enjoying one of the most visually arresting city landscapes in the world.

Edinburgh Highlights - Private Shore Excursion

Edinburgh is privileged to have one of only three UK royal residences, namely Holyrood Palace. But during the ages, the Kings and Queens of Scotland have also lived at Edinburgh Castle and this private tour with your own local guide will acquaint you with these fantastic buildings.

Holyrood Palace is still used to this day by the Royal Family and features a ruined abbey in its grounds. Edinburgh Castle is home to the oldest Crown Jewels in Europe, called "The Honours of Scotland".

We will start our tour by seeing Edinburgh Castle from the outside, giving you an overview over this very important historic site, stroll along the Royal Mile, through the heart of the Old Town of Edinburgh ending up at Holyrood Palace which we will visit (audio/visual guide included in the entrance fee of £21/person).

From there we will walk back to the New Town and I will bring you to your restaurant in time to have a meal before you head to your concert.
