Since moving to Edinburgh in 1988 from Germany, via South Africa and Switzerland, I am continually struck by the awesome beauty of this European Capital, by the visible history, the living culture and the juxtaposition of nature and city. I have been guiding individuals and groups through Edinburgh, Scotland and the rest of the UK since 1994 and just love imparting knowledge, local anecdotes, introducing guests to the history and the daily life of this mesmerising country and city. Come and join me on one of my walks and prepare to be enchanted, entertained and educated. If you have any particular requirements or interests, I would love to hear from you and could then tailor a tour exactly to your requirements/interests. As a mother of six, I am particularly suited to adapt the program towards children/teenagers and have experience in bringing history alive for them. We are 7 friends and we did a half-day walking tour of Edinburgh with Felicitas. The tour was extremely entertaining. We were allowed to visit places that certainly go beyond the scope of an otherwise usual tour, because Felicitas not only has excellent knowledge in all areas, but because you really notice and believe her love for this city. It was a great day thanks to Felicitas charming and unpretentious guide. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the top score we would all give Felicitas an 11!
Felicitas is an outstanding walking-tour guide for the central portion of Edinburgh. We spent 4 1/2 hours visiting the main sites, starting at the Castle. With the gentle downward slope of the Royal Mile, we visited nearby, off-the-main-road sites and historic buildings and artifacts seldom-seen by the everyday tourist. Her deep knowledge of Scottish history, interwoven with contemporary events, provides a great understanding of how this city has prospered and grown over the centuries.
Personal tour On our way through, we had a few hours to visit Edinburgh. Felicitas guided us through the castle, the Royal Mile with its great backyards and part of the New Town. She knows the city like the back of her hand. Many thanks, Felicitas, for the great tour, which we would be happy to recommend.
The itinerary will be the following: - Upon meeting on the Castle Esplanade. - I will give you an overview of the city and its landscape. - From there we walk down the Royal Mile, taking in the various points of interest, including forrays in the closes and wynds, as well as visiting the Cathedral of St Giles. - Visit interesting spots (depending on the special interests of the guests) - End up at the bottom of the Royal Mile at the Royal Palace of Holyroodhouse.
