If visitors have never been to Bordeaux before, then this is the best introduction to our beautiful city! This tour leads you through the city centre where you will discover how Bordeaux developed as a bustling trade and culture centre all the way back from the Bronze Age to the Roman times, through the Middle Ages where the wine trade really took off, and up to the Golden Era (18th/19th century) where Bordeaux became the elegant urban centre it still is today (minus the traffic!).

We will pass impressive, imposing, delightful, and sombre landmarks that will make you feel connected with Bordeaux. I'll also be pleased to point out the restaurants where we locals prefer to go as well as the coolest wine bars to relax after your day. The tour will end next to a lively area of restaurants and bars in case it coincides with lunch or dinner plans you may have.

Bordeaux History - Express Walking Tour

Our walk will explore the monuments and sights off the beaten track in Bordeaux. We start at the elegant *Allées de Tourny*, a promenade capturing Bordeaux’s aristocratic past, where I will reveal the secrets of its *Freemasonic* connections seen in the *Mascarons*. We then pass the ancient *Roman Forum*, now the *Place de la Comédie* with the 18th-century *Grand Théâtre*. Bordeaux. *Burdigala*, was a Roman trade hub, and we'll discover the last standing *Roman Guard Tower* nearby. In the *Saint-Pierre* district, we'll visit *La Grosse Cloche*, a medieval belfry symbolizing the city's defensive past. A modern DIY store holds the remains of *Medieval City Gates* connected to *La Grosse Cloche*. We'll finish at the *Porte Cailhau*, the grand 15th-century entrance to Bordeaux, before strolling along the *Garonne River* to the iconic *Place de la Bourse*, where you'll learn of Bordeaux’s transformation during the *Enlightenment*.
