An experienced Blue Badge tour guide with a PhD in Scottish history, I love my job! From castles and clans to ancestry, archaeology and the arts, Scotland's cultural heritage is rich and varied, and I'd love to help you experience it. With a background in higher education and historical research, I'm in an ideal position to help you explore ancient archaeology, kings and queens, witch-hunting, the Jacobites or many of the other fascinating aspects of Scottish history. Along the way, we can uncover so much more that Scotland has to offer: we can explore quirky customs, ceremonies, folklore and superstitions; feast on superb Scottish produce; embark on a whisky or gin trail; spot spectacular wildlife; bask in breathtaking scenery; visit film and literary locations (yes - definitely Outlander!); photograph iconic landscapes and architecture; and connect with Scottish artisans and craftspeople (I am a keen knitter and love using yarns produced or hand dyed in Scotland). I own a Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE (Luxury). This is a high end vehicle with a panoramic sunroof, allowing you the best possible experience of a driving tour in Scotland. I am part of a team that has been awarded the prestigious Green Tourism Gold Award for our efforts to ensure tours with us are sustainable and responsible, including a guarantee that driver-guided tours with me are carbon neutral. Scotland is incredible. Allow me to help you make the most of your trip :-) Ph.D. in Scottish history First Class Honours Degree in History Fully qualified 'Blue Badge' member of the Scottish Tourist Guides Association (STGA), which means I am qualified and fully insured to guide throughout Scotland Scotch Whisky Trail Certificate Green Tourism Gold

Allow me to show you around my home ground - Stirling and the surrounding area. What better way to explore this beautiful city at the heart of Scotland than with a local? The landscape is stunning and the heritage is rich, and I can help you really get to the essence of Stirling's stories, both past and present. Only a short drive from Edinburgh, Stirling played a strategic role in medieval times, with an unprecedented number of power plays and battles taking place in the vicinity. These include those fought by William Wallace and Robert Bruce, who fought to free Scotland from the ambitions of successive English rulers, as portrayed by Mel Gibson in Braveheart (1995) and Chris Pine in Outlaw King (2018). We'll visit Stirling Castle, with its incredible views of the Forth Valley, and tread in the footsteps of the Renaissance monarchs who made this impressive fortress their home. We will also visit the Bannockburn Visitor Centre, where you will can immerse yourself in its incredible 3D battle experience.
- I will pick you up from your hotel and drive the scenic route to Stirling. We can choose to visit The Kelpies on the way there, or on the way back, depending on your timings and preferences. - We will begin our tour with a visit to Stirling Castle and the Old Town, perhaps having a wander around the historic graveyard at the 'Top of the Town', in which there are numerous fascinating gravestones with interesting symbols. - We will then drive over to the Wallace Monument for a photo stop - We'll then head over to Bannockburn Visitor Centre, where you can choose to simply visit the site of the famous battle or experience it in the 3D interactive theatre. Feel free to contact me if you would like to customize this tour.
