«Córdoba, distant and lonely» as Lorca wrote, is today in fact a can't miss place, the capital of Al-Ándalus and one of my favorite short escape options! Let yourself to fully immerse into the Mosque-Cathedral's mysticism with an architecture lover, and explore through key districts the styles that shaped the urban landscape. Wander around and experience "hand in hand" the medieval combination of the labyrinthine streets and the little squares. The popular Courtyards Festival, every May, awarding the best yard (patio), reminds the importance for the local climate and society of these widely used open spaces. Famous also for its multicultural cuisine, Cordova promises to win your heart as once won mine with its salmorejo, oxtail, flamenquín, eggplant chips with honey, and fried marinated fish! The ideal supplement to your stay in Seville to understand better some of the most prominent turning points in history, by emerging in four different cultures and three monotheistic religions in a single city!
Suggested starting point: Sevilla Santa Justa Train Station (to take the modern high-speed train and travel in an environmentally sustainable way) After reaching Córdoba - in an only 50 minutes trip - we will wander around the medieval Old Town, with the different quarters of the respective religious communities that once lived together, and visit the following sites: * Roman Bridge (Puente Romano) & Guadalquivir river, photo stop * Mosque-Cathedral (Mezquita-Catedral), visit inside * 14th century Synagogue (Sinagoga), visit inside too (Monday closed) Before the train takes us back to Seville through the andalusian rural landscape, we will taste local delights in one of my favourite restaurants. (Passport number required for tickets)
