The Umayyads extended the Islamic territory from Damascus, to the Western world. In 711 they conquered the Iberian Peninsula and it became an Umayyad province. When the Umayyad caliphate of Damascus was overthrown by the Abbasids in 750, the last surviving member of the dynasty fled to Spain, establishing himself as Amir and thus initiating the Umayyad emirate. Azahara is a wonderful historian and tour guide. We sought out her expertise because Spain's Islamic history seemed most fuzzy to us before our visit…and after 3 hours it makes so much more sense! Azahara adeptly employed visual aides to illustrate how the footprints of the various Muslim and Catholic additions changed over time, and she explained how these changes are recorded in both the architectural styles and materials used. All our questions were answered during this enjoyable tour.
Azahara is very knowledgeable. She took the time to go through the details and historical significance of different areas of the great Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. A 5 star tour guide, highly recommended to get the perspective from Ummayad timeline in Andalusia.

Ci ha guidato attraverso la città facendoci fare un tuffo nella storia e rendendo le ore passate con lei forse troppo brevi tanto riusciva a mantenere alto l'attenzione. E' stata una guida cordiale, molto professionale ma al tempo stesso come fosse un'amica che non vedevo da tempo e che aveva deciso di accompagnarmi nella visita della città. I have had several guided tours in my life but this was certainly one of the best. My husband and I tooth Ummayad dynasty in Cordoba tour which was amazing. Azahara is a GEM. She is knowledgeable and passionate about her subject which makes the tour very interesting. In a sea of distraction her informative relaxed style draws attention to the smallest of details.
