Learn about the history of Barcelona while enjoying a great walk through some of its most popular markets. We will combine Food Culture with Local History. In Barcelona, all neighborhoods have their food market. We love buying fresh food at the markets. We can see lots of fruits, vegetables; fresh meat, fish and seafood straight from the fish market, a cornucopia of colors and textures. . . Without going any further, my husband and I love shopping in those markets when we really want to celebrate or surprise our guests. Such is the freshness of their products !! Let me guide you through La Boquería, the most popular on La Rambla, and Santa Caterina, recently restored. We could enjoy some tasting on the way if you wish so!! This tour is not available on Sunday, Bank holidays or the month of August as the Boqueria Market and many stores are closed. Another aspect: On Monday, markets in general, are not so great since many spots are closed.
It's an interesting and enjoyable tour with the colorful sights and sounds of the market mixed with the ambience of the old world, the quiet and elegance of roman and medieval architecture. Gloria is an excellent guide in retelling the history.
We really enjoyed our tour with Gloria. Before we even met her she was keen to help us make the most of our stay in Barcelona - she modified her tour to suit our needs exactly. She's knowledgable, personable, professional, flexible and kind. It was really fun to spend time with a "local" person who helped us understand so much about Barcelona and Catalunya. I highly recommend this tour.
