A true outdoor enthusiast, I’ve lived in Denmark, Germany, Austria, and Ecuador working in international commerce. Along the way, I earned a Business Degree and became an official Hiking and Cycling Guide. I have lived in Barcelona for the past 20 years, and traveling and discovering new cultures is one of my biggest motivations in life. I discovered that welcoming people and showing them around is my way of giving back the hospitality I received during my travels around the world. I also very much enjoy hiking, cycling, skiing, trail running and basketball. My favourite natural wonder near Barcelona: Hiking above the majestic cliffs and needles of the North face of Montserrat. My favorite city activity in Barcelona: getting lost on a bicycle through the tiny streets of the Gothic quarter until I reach the Mediterranean. Montserrat is my second home and the place where I’ve been guiding for over a decade. As an accredited Hiking Leader, my goal is to create experiences that combine nature, culture and genuine human connection. This experience includes a visit to the historic monastery and abbey, home of the Black Madonna, allowing us to better understand Montserrat’s cultural, historical and spiritual importance. Montserrat is much more than a monastery. The mountain truly comes alive when experienced through its natural park, where spirituality, landscape and local culture come together in harmony. Together, we’ll explore scenic trails, hidden corners and panoramic viewpoints while learning about Montserrat’s history and traditions. The experience also includes a funicular ride up the mountain and free time around the monastery area and local market before returning comfortably to Barcelona.
We had a great day with Uni Z. I can’t recommend this trip enough. Everything was organized perfectly . Incredible hike all downhill and of course the monastery at the end. One of the best guides we’ve ever had on any of these tours . One word of caution is that while the hike is all downhill with spectacular views the trail is quite steep so just know that before you go . I’m 70 and walk a lot and had no problem
Very friendly, knowledgeable and easy to understand
Uni is an excellent tour guide. We got off to a bit of a rocky start as he was 45 minutes lates picking us up (which once he arrived he explained he had an emergency which is understandable). We visited Montserrat and he shared a wealth of information about the history there as well as Catalunya history. The tour was well paced, and he comped us a visit to the Museum of Montserrat for our late start. (Museum is well worth the visit). Ended our day at a charming farm to table restaurant nearby. It was very enjoyable and Uni is a delightful person.
Our tour to Montserrat was an unforgettable experience. Communication with Uni was prompt and clear. He adapted to our group of seven which included teens and adults of various fitness levels. He was organized and on-time, and just as importantly, he was engaged with every member of our family. He offered context and insight throughout the day which only added to our enjoyment. Uni was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly attentive to our family's needs and went above and beyond to ensure we had an exceptional experience. From picking us up at the airport to sharing important information about the day ahead, everything was seamless from start to finish. One thoughtful touch we especially appreciated was that he allowed everyone to rest and sleep in the van on the way to Montserrat after our early flight. Once we arrived, Uni planned a wonderful hike that took us to the top of the mountain and back down via a different route, allowing us to experience the beauty of both sides of Montserrat. Throughout the day, he was engaging, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the area. He shared fascinating insights, answered all of our questions, and even took numerous family photos for us along the way. His professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made the day truly memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Uni and would not hesitate to book another tour with him the next time we visit Barcelona. We highly recommend him to anyone looking for an outstanding and personalized experience!
After picking you up from your accommodation in Barcelona, we’ll drive towards Montserrat while I share some local history and context about Catalonia and the mountain itself. Once in Montserrat, we’ll visit the monastery and abbey, home of the Black Madonna, to better understand the historical and cultural importance of this unique place. We’ll then take the Sant Joan funicular up the mountain to enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the natural park. From there, we’ll enjoy an easy scenic hike surrounded by Montserrat’s iconic rock formations and Mediterranean nature. As this is a private experience, the pace of the day is fully adapted to your group, allowing us to enjoy the mountain without rush. Montserrat is best understood through its nature, where spirituality, landscape and local culture come together in harmony.
