I’ve often been described as friendly and communicative, always eager to lend a helping hand. I was born in Lisbon and raised between this vibrant city and the Portuguese central-west coast, giving me an interesting blend of urban and coastal roots. I am a passionate surfer, and I have dedicated much of my life to the ocean and teaching this sport and lifestyle to others. I began my journey in the tourism industry in the late 90s, building a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. My love for sharing Portugal with travellers led me to take a degree in tourism (tour guiding and tourism marketing), for which I deeply studied Portugal and the best way to promote it. Later, a post-graduate degree in adventure tourism gave me better tools to explore and share my country's secrets. Since then, I’ve embraced the opportunity to welcome travellers from around the world, with whom I shared the essence of Portuguese culture. Now, as a proud family man with two children, I can confidently say that parenthood is the greatest adventure of my life. Music is my third passion; I studied jazz drumming and have enjoyed playing drums and percussion in various projects. Conscious that Lisbon’s strategic location offers access to some of Portugal's most authentic treasures within just an hour’s drive, I've crafted unique routes and experiences around the city. Lisbon is the stunning capital of Portugal and one of the most charismatic and vibrant cities in Western Europe. This magical city blends rich historical heritage with striking modernism and a multicultural spirit. During this 4-hour private van tour, we will visit Lisbon’s must-see sights while also exploring some hidden gems. In the first two hours, we’ll explore Lisbon’s historic heart, stopping at breathtaking viewpoints and fascinating monuments. Local food is an important component of my tours. You'll have free time to visit local markets and taste the Portuguese soul. We’ll then drive to the historic district of Belém, home to remarkable monuments that represent the Age of Discoveries — a golden chapter in Portuguese history. Afterwards, we’ll return to old Lisbon for drop-off. Before that, however, we can’t miss the famous Pastéis de Belém pastry shop, where, according to legend, it is the only place you can find custard tarts made using the original recipe created by the monks.
Excellent tour of Lisbon with Rui. He communicated with us nicely prior to the tour and arrived at our hotel right on time. He is extremely personable and easy to be with- it was a pleasure to spend the day with him. He showed us a great variety of locations throughout the city, and he explained history and cultural features in a very engaging way. We would absolutely recommend his tours without any hesitation. Rui is a GREAT guide. He has tremendous knowledge about Lisbon and Portugal…both the past and present. We really enjoyed listening to him and asking questions. We not only saw the best of the highlights of Lisbon, but he took us to lunch at a really good place we never would have found. We can’t wait to spend all day Sunday with him.
Rui was great! Our flight was delayed and he was waiting for us in our hotel lobby. He covered so much of Lisbon on our driving tour with stops along the way to take some pictures and look around. Lisbon is beautiful and full of hills so even though our tour was cut short with flight delay we still felt he gave us a full tour. He offered to extend the end time of the tour to make up for the time lost. He was friendly and knowledgeable and I highly recommend him!
Rui was the most wonderful tour guide. We had asked to see some particular historic sights and he did an enormous amount of research for us, not only showing us the sights but also giving insight into the why and how of the sights. It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with him. I highly recommend this tour guide for anyone going to Lisbon.
- After pickup, we'll drive to Graça, the highest hill in Lisbon, stopping at the Nossa Senhora do Monte Viewpoint for a perfect city introduction. - Next, we'll pass by the Largo das Portas do Sol Viewpoint for a panoramic view over Alfama, with an optional stop at the Lisbon Cathedral. - We’ll then enjoy a scenic drive through the heart of Lisbon, passing historic Baixa, Rossio Square, Restauradores Square, and the elegant Avenida da Liberdade. - Next, we’ll visit the historic Belém district, where you’ll see the Belém Tower (exterior), the Jerónimos Monastery (exterior and church), and the Monument to the Discoveries. - No visit to Lisbon is complete without a stop at the legendary Pastéis de Belém pastry shop. NOTE *Jerónimos Monastery's Church closes on Mondays (all day) and on Sunday mornings (only opens at 2PM). Other religious ceremonies or events may impact the schedules and the circulation in the area.
