I use my expertise and experince to design all the tours to be real "tours by a local". Every single one of them is slightly different from the standard offer of tours in Krakow. I will be thrilled to show you the "must-sees", recommend the "must-dos", and take you off the beaten track to mingle with the locals in Krakow and its surroundings. Please, take a look at the itineraries that I offer here for you, and if there is anything that you would like to change or add to them, just message me with a request for a customized tour. Then anything can be done! I am also happy to take you to towns and villages which are not listed here. I will be looking forward to your message. If you would like to get to know me a little better, here is a bit of background information: I was born in 1989, just two months after the first democratic election in Poland. My attitude towards my country was shaped by my family: the grandparents, all of whom still had the trauma and vivid memories of World War II, and my parents, who spent their 20s watching the long-awaited fall of communism. This background is the reason for my fascination with the 20th century history. It makes me extremely proud that after 30 years of struggle to "catch up with the West" Poland is gaining so much recognition from world travelers and I feel privileged to get to share with you the amazing history and culture of my country! For my education, I chose two faculties: Tourism and English Language & Culture. Now, after 11 years of working as a city guide and tour leader, I believe this was a perfect combination which helped me provide first-class service to my guests. My energy, sunny disposition, and fascination with Krakow are contagious and will make your visit here worthwhile never mind the weather or time of day! The end of World War II was not the end of problems for Poland. . . The country went from German occupation into Soviet "influence". Krakow again was supposed to play a symbolic role: the area not far from the Old Town was chosen by the Soviets as the location for a new steelworks. And, of course, with the Cold War in progress, this was supposed to become the biggest steelworks in the world. The steelworks was designed from scratch along with a whole town to provide housing for the laborers. Designing the city, the architects kept in mind the threat of the outbreak of World War III—they provided the town with 250 anti-bombing shelters. Today, the district of Nowa Huta is a perfect example of socialist urban design and all the ideology behind it. This is the place to understand the clash between the ideals of communism and the reality of life in this system.
We will meet at your hotel/apartment in Krakow and drive to the Nowa Huta District. There we will see: •The Administrative Buildings of the former Lenin Steelworks, •The residential buildings and 'neighbourhood units' which were supposed to serve the ideal socialist community, • The Central Square now dedicated to Ronald Reagan •The Museum of Nowa Huta and anti-bombing shelter, •An original 'Milk Bar' - a canteen subsidized by the state to promote meat-free dining in the era of shortage of meat , •The sight of the 'Nowa Huta Cross' and the place where the biggest anti-communist riots in this region happened. The tour will end at your hotel/apartment or at any other place of your choice.
